My computer currently have 512MB of RAM. I just bought a 1GB. Why when I install it, I get a black screen when I turn my pc on? It seems like Windows wouldn't boot. But when I take it, Windows boots fine. Is there something wrong? I'm sure that the RAM I just bought is compatible to my PC. Thanks.

I tried what you guys suggested...but unfortunately it still didn't work. I placed the new ram in the old one's slot...and switched them around...and took the old one out.

I just bought a 1GB PC3200
My computer have 512Mb PC3200

However, when I used EVEREST, I saw my Memory is 200 MHz...My new is 400 MHz PC3200.. Does this really matter?

Ram is fairly easy to install, simply remove the old ram if there is no slot for your new ram and then make sure the ram is put in correctly and press it into place till the little clasps come upright and hold it into place.

You did push it all the way in didn't you??
The ram will not work if it's the wrong ram, and there are many different types of ram out there.
If it's all the way in and it's not working then put the old ram back in and see if it still works.
Good Luck

You started with 512mb of ram. You bought a 1gb stick.
I figure that you are trying to add the 1gb with the 512 mb. You should make sure that the sticks are the same size. If you have 2 slots, you should have the same size memory in each slot. Also check to see what your computers max memory is. It may have a 1gb max. The stick you just purchased is compatible with your pc, but only if it is matched with the same size stick. I suggest that if you have the 512 in there take it out and install the new stick.

do you get beeping usually when there is a ram issue you get beep codes kind of like a sos for a pc usually a totally black screen is a cpu issue but you are saying that the pc boots fine when you take out the extra ram. are you mixing the old and new ram try just using the new ram and seeing if it boots also is the new ram to fast for your pc. or does your motherbord even support 1 gig of ram most do now adays but older bords might not. You might want to edit your question and tell us if its what kind of ram you are using and what mo9therbord or if its a prebuilt system like a dell what make and modle system it is

also there is a chance your new ram chip could be defective if you have anotherpc try it in there

Make sure you didn't jiggle anything when you were in the case. Make sure mem and HDD plugs are fully seated. Also, make sure you did not exceed RAM. Just because it's the same type, does not mean it's useable.

e.g. My old Dell P2 has a max RAM of 386 MB PC100(3 X 128). I can get PC100 sticks greater than 128 MB, but whether or not they would help, or work at all, I don't know.

Definitely make sure RAM is fully seated first.

Good luck.

Try different slots. Usually you have to place the RAM in the slot next to your old one. Also try taking the old RAM chip out and putting the new one in it's place and see what happens.

See if your mainboard supports the 1gb of ram.

You may need to refer to your motherboard's instruction guide. RAM may need to be placed in a specific slot and/or configuration.
