Ok, 4 sliders should be in at least a 40 gallon tank. They need a 10 gallon sized tank for every 1 inch of shell length. They need water 1 & 1/2 times the shell length. A basking spot they can easily crawl out of. A heat lamp with a basking spot at about 90-95F (use only a digital thermometer to monitor--stick ons and dials are very inaccurate). The heat needs to be on at least 10-12 hours a day. They also need a UVB fluorescent bulb on for 10-12 hours a day, and it must be no further than 12 inches from the basking spot. Diet is more protein for babies with some vegetable matter, but changes as they get older to mostly vegie. Water needs to be changed frequently. A water heater is a must, as is a powerful water filter.
Without correct heat/light/diet/vitamins/etc they will not live a happy, healthy, long life. Here is an excellent website to help you--check all the habitat instructions and see if you need to change anything you are doing.

The phrase 'little home together- 1/2 water 1/2 sand' worries me and makes me think they are overcrowded.

In crowded conditions, there is usually a bully and a runt, and it sounds like your one is turning into the runt.

I suspect that there several things that can be improved in your set up to make the turtles all happy and healthy. Give http://www.redearslider.com a try for some great advice!

They have different personalities. Its likely that he just likes spending time in the warmth instead of in the water. It could also be possible that behind your back the others are picking on him and he seperates himself. Some turtles like to bask more then others and its probably nothing to worry about. If he starts sleeping a lot then you need to research more into it but Im sure he is fine. Just dont feed them on land. They cant swallow food without water and can die. properly, turtles do shed, yet not it somewhat is shell. it particularly is often an illustration of low calcium. start up feeding him greater calcium foodstuff. If that doesn't artwork, take it to a vet, an unique one, the conventional ones often dont know something approximately turtles. in case you think of it somewhat is chilly, then get a water heater. i'm hoping this answer is nice!
