I agree with bluebell, but in a different context. Patience is NOT a virtue if the patience is applied toward something that is hurtful to people. I.g., during the WWII, the world was patient as Hitler murdered millions. That kind of patience is despicable. However, tolerance can be considered a virtue in every case.

Patience is a virtue! It is never a bad thing.

You may be confusing it with sloth, laziness or disinterest but we should be careful to keep the word free to deal only with "positive" instances.

The appropriateness of the word "patience" would end when your toast was "just right." After that you are distracted, late, slack or any number of other words.

Of course, if you ARE "waiting for your toast to burn", then it is "just right" only when it is burnt.

Patience is a bad thing when a loved one is in the hospital and the hospital staff refuse to tell you anything that is going on. The suspense drains the heart.

Patience is a bad thing where action needs to be taken pronto - like if you cut an artery. No good sitting back waiting for help to arrive if you need to take action NOW
