Its a very good computer for a 10 year old. The kid should be able to play some god games easily. Its not a top of the line PC, but its fairly descent. I personally wouldn't recommend Vista yet. Also, like someone else mentioned you should get 2GB of RAM. Just to keep the speed going. Vista is memory intensive and with more RAM you also get more virtual memory which will be important for Vista. Overall its more than any 10 year old would need. It should run no more than $800. Try www.tigerdirect.com to match their price.
Good Luck!!!

$600 dollars for an ACER?!?!?! You have GOT to be kidding me! that is outrageous! Acer is Cheap, cheap, cheap!!! money AND quality. I am going to get a Dell Inspiron 1501 that is better than that for $550, and Dell is good quality, unlike Acer. and, if you do not do gaming, you do not need 120GB of HDD. go through the Dell customization process, and give it 60 GB. It will take a huge chunk off of the price, like $50-$100. and the guy who insulted you being a ten year old doesent know what he is talking about. most kids know more about computers/electronics than the average adult.

For a 10 year old...a win 2000 Asus that they have in CADD labs is good for you...that is almost nearly yet not even close to a good PC but it should suite you fine...of course there are better computers than some Laptop with integrated graphics...that card (video card) won't do much gaming and you should really get a desktop with at least a 7600GT

Hate to burst your bubble but laptops
have a normal "Operating Life" of about
3 to 5 years afterwards they become a
"BRICK" the hardware is outdated and
the OS would most likely be shot. I'd go
with something a tad bit cheaper like a
Dell Inspiron 1601.

not bad as long as your not planning on any CPU/Memory intensive apps, like video etc.
When working with a laptop, you have no room for growth. You have to get external everything to add anything. larger hard drive?? Going to rip or download music or movies??
Create videos? More RAM.
Internet access? Network adapter (internal or via PCCard or USB)
DVD movies or Gaming?? Larger screen or external monitor..
School?? external keyboard, printer, etc..
A desktop computer will typically be cheaper and more expandable, just not as mobile.

even however the sport is a working laptop or workstation interest, that's an INTERACTIVE interest, meaning that they are enjoying in a electronic atmosphere WITH OTHERS. on the prevailing time, that's completely wide-spread for babies to compliment to "work together" with others by using a working laptop or workstation as adversarial to actual existence. that's a demonstration of the cases. no longer something to fret approximately. on the worst, they're workstation geeks. no longer something incorrect with that. It retains their minds sharp and whilst it comes time to get a activity sooner or later, they could finally end up with the workstation qualifications it takes to get an outstanding paying tech interest.

With a laptop, you will get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome by age 13. Better stick to a desktop if you are not yet a road warrior.

It's not bad. If you're going to use Windows Vista, then I'd recommend getting 2GB of RAM instead of just 1GB...otherwise it looks cool.
