i want to be more active than just sitting on my butt all year watching tv and chowing down on food thts gonna make me fat.( i am not fat btw, i am slender) but anyways, i want to do something year-round excluding swimming. so whats not SUPER expensive but farely affordable. i was thinking cheerleading, but i dont want my parents to have to carry the burden to pay the bills tht come with cheerleading like uniforms, trips, injuries, outfits, makeup (if applicable) shoes. plus the cost of tuition. so any ideas? i am in 8th grade, not too athletic but would like to be, i am tall, slender, and i am willing to put my heart into it if i really enjoy it.

I'll do this in steps so it's easy to follow each part. It's not really difficult, just long. You can add the whole numbers and the fractions together seperately. i.e. 5 + 3 + 1/2 + 3/5 So you can add 5 + 3 = 8 and then add the fractions seperately. (1) Before you can add fractions, they must have the same denominator (bottom). So you have to convert both fractions to equivalent fractions with a common denominator. (a) First find a number which is a multiple of both denominators.. Easiest way to do this is just to multiply them together. i.e. 2 x 5 = 10 - use 10 as a common denominator. (b) Now you have to multiply the numerators (top) of each fraction by the number you multiplied each denominator by to get the common denomiator. You need to do this to keep the fractions equivalent (equal) to what they were with the old denominators. (Equivalent fractions are made by multiplying top and bottom by the same number - to keep them equal to the original.) For 1/2: 2 x 5 = 10, so multiply numerator (1) by 5. Now 1/2 becomes 5/10 (i.e. multiply both top and bottom by 5) For 3/5: 5 x 2 = 10 => 3 x 2 = 6 => 3/5 = 6/10 (i.e. multiply both top and bottim by 2) (2) Now you can add the fractions together. You do this by adding the numerators (tops) and leaving the denominator the same: 1/2 + 3/5 = 5/10 + 6/10 = (5 + 6)/10 = 11/10 (i.e. 5 tenths + 6 tenths = 11 tenths) This is an improper fraction (bottom bigger than top), so convert it to a mixed number (whole number with fraction). Do this by dividing top by bottom and leaving the remainder in the fraction part: 11/10 = 1 1/10 (3) Now add this "mixed number" to the original whole number parts: 5 1/2 + 3 3/5 = 5 + 3 + 1/2 + 3/5 = 5 + 3 + 1 1/10 = 9 1/10

Well just to let you know cheerleading is not expensive especially in middle school you dont pay for anything. The uniforms are just givin to you. Even in highschool if u want to continue with cheering its not expensive the onli thing most schools have you pay for is camp. you buy your own makeup.you dont go on trips unless your varsity and make states and even then the school pays for it. you do buy your own shoes but thats like 85-90 bucks. however cheerleading is not year round. you have football season which last up to january then basketball starts which goes up to like march or somethin. After that you could try track like me. i go from football season to basketball season straight to track season. Busy

Try biking about 5 miles a day (don't worry biking 5 miles is way easier than running 2 miles). You can also play tennis. You can burn a lot of calories in a very short amount of time. The last thing is playing soccer. Soccer also burns a lot of calories in a short amount of time.

Good for you for wanting to become more active and for your consideration for the cost it may be for your parents.

I think that Jeff's answers are great!

Do you like to run? You could possibly try track & field. I personally love volleyball and that can be played indoors and outdoors.

You can play soccer year round if where you are living has an indoor soccer center (winter) and of course the outdoor season (spring, summer).

Do school or rec club cheering. And double check with your cheer gyms. Some offer non-travel teams that really aren't expensive at all.
