Well, do you think that the amount of sheer stupidity on Yahoo Answers is a reflection of our society or just the fact that stupid people gather here to ask questions BECAUSE they are stupid?

Just to expand - I'm not talking about ignorance. That is what this site is based upon. I am talking about stupidity. For example:
Someone asked the question "Who has a tagged a re they addicated to it is it boring?" With no text in the question. Is this ignorance, or is it stupidity?

I think it is the former. Whenever there is free access to something, the population will use it... and most people are astoundingly stupid.

I don't get the impression of stupidity, as much as, ... more like, close-minded. I have been shocked at the number of ppl that provide answers on certain topics w/o paying attn to details I have offered w/ my ques.
It's as if their mind is made up about the topic, before they read the ques.
This displays an unwillingness to learn.
I don't expect everyone to agree w/ me, in fact, I don't want that.
But I expect, at least a respectable amt. of answerers, that don't agree, to address the details I provide so I can learn their opinion and determine if I should reevaluate my position.
As a result, I end up w/ a lot of slanted answers that are quick to say why, but absent to confront my reason why not.
A great example occured yesterday when I drew attn to a high speed chase that had just ended. I posed my ques. objecting to the way police completed the apprehension of the driver.
About 25 (nearly all) of the ppl disagreed (incl 2 cops) w/ me for mostly the same reasons that are merely indicating to me, that they think the cops are always right. They kept ignoring my plea to see the civil resolution that was plainly possible.
Finally, an honest law enforcement officer answered, and he validated my concerns by exposing the improper police procedure that verified my position.
Made all those ppl look bad ... lol
If you've got time (it's a LONG thread) click my avatar, it's currently my 3rd to last ques. "A man refuses to pull over ..."

Society as a whole is inherently dumb. Many times society has made unwise decisions. Some of which has caused its demise.
so many people are worried about what society tells them they forget to use their higher thinking because they think that because so many other people are behind it they think their thinking is not needed. Basically what I am saying is everyone is the victim of groupthink. If the group thinks for you (as in asking a question online basically is) you no longer have to think for yourself. Then you have people asking simple basic logic questions on YA! Because the group is doing the thinking for them so they don't.
See what I'm getting at?

I think you are a bit harsh!
YA is a forum for anyone to ask questions, if we were all brilliant there would be no questions to answer. I like the fact that someone might know the answer to my question verses hitting a bunch of other websites and following a bunch of links.
Plus, since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess stupid is in the opinion of the reader.

yes I agree it is a lot more intelligent to sit in front of a TV all day and watch mostly commercials about stuff we don't need and it isn't really like advertised anyway. Or to be really brilliant watch Ellen or listen non stop to CNN about the bombings in Iraq and how stupid are government officials are.
Actually, I would rather be out on the golf course but this makes me look like I am busy and working.
I guess I could play games but the noise let's them know you playing games on the computer.

Stupid because we think, questions asked were something stupid, but if we dwell on them, there are many reasons why simple questions cannot be answered by them. If we are not the one concern, it is easy to say things, but if u r the one involved well....it is really hard, when u r between two people or things where you can't let go of one, then they become stupid to someone who don't have the problem. :)

I just think people seems "stupid" because of the questions they ask, trying to out-do other questions and/or come up with questions not asked before. My pet peeve is typos! I've never seen so many typos before in my life!
