Now obviously, we are talking about these players in their prime. This should provide some awesome comparisons with other All-Time great franchises like Edmonton, New York Islanders, Montreal, Boston, and I'm sure many others...so, impress me!
I know one thing...I'd keep your head up when that 4th line was out there...if you valued your life...

Hey scumbag Loblaw: Shouldn't you be out stalking someone? Speaking of 'peabrain', why don't you use yours and answer the question tough guy? I think that team is as good as any...so after you take your weekly shower later, put your money where your cavity filled mouth is.

Zapcity: I was trying to fit the lines according to the players. I like the Recchi's speed to compliment Sid's on that line.

Gilbert: 431 goals and 457 assists ain't too shabby...Roberts on a line with ultimate tough guy Tocchet and Brian Trottier who had a mean streak, too, would be a scary sight.

As for Barrasso, he was 369-277-86 with 38 shutouts and and a 3.23 G.A.A....Not to mention, the Penguins really didnt focus on defense too much when he played there...they left Barrasso on his own many nights and were content to just outscore everyone with that unbelievably potent offense of theirs. I think his numbers were pretty good.

Like I'm telling you:
Well stated. However, there are reasons I have who I have on this team. I would have posted the list of guys left off but I ran out of time to do so the other day.
I know Malkin and Staal have only been here for one year, but I see something in both that I think will justify them both being on this team without question after their career's are over.
Staal, by the way, scored more goals (29-27) than some guy named Jagr in his rookie season, and even admitted that he needed time to catch up to the speed of the game passing wise. I think you'll see a much improved overall player in Jordan this season.
As for Malkin, it had to be difficult to play with everyone not knowing the language that great and he still performed to Calder Trphy winning status, not to mention his speed and sniping compliments him well on Sid's line.

Pronovost and Kehoe were very good players, and you could even include Michel Briere in that mix based on how good he might have been, but Roberts and Mullen both have more goals, and Mullen was just a gritty guy who just seemed to be in the right place at the right time, and if he is with Ron Francis, arguably one of the games greatest passers ever, would have no problem finding Mullen and Staal at all. As for Roberts, well, he can score and he adds a physicality to the game that is awesome...think the Senators got the message when he almost killed Volchenkov with 30 seconds left in game 5? He doesn't quit, EVER, neither does ultimate tough guy Rick Tocchet, who came back to score a goal after having his jaw WIRED SHUT. Having those two on the ice with a Hall of Famer and a noted mean streak as well in Brian Trottier, and you will have one hell of a scary 4th line!

Now, perhaps I made a mistake not including Burrows and Carlisle, but I paired a puck moving, point scoring defencemen with a guy who would protect the defensive side of the ice while the other 4 worked their magic up ice. Having guys who will knock you into next month protecting the blue line in Kaspar and Ulf are necessities. Perhaps I should have included one of those two over Kevin Hatcher, but Hatcher was by far a better goal scorer than both combined.
So, thank you for your contributions, but I'm sticking with this team.

Oh, and I'd take Recchi over Pronovost 365 days a year...maybe I'd go the other way one day during a leap year, but I doubt it.

This isn't even close to being the best team a Pittsburgh franchise could put out.
Where's Randy Carlyle? Norris Trophy winner in 1980-81, and 3rd on Pittsburgh's Defense scoring? And certainly better than Darius Kasparaitus, Ulf Samuelsson, Kevin Hatcher.
Where's Dave Burrows? Played in 3 All-Star games as a Penguin and in 1978, and Guy Lafleur called him the toughest defenceman he ever played against? Again, most knowledgable hockey people would put Burrows ahead of Kasparaitus and Samuelsson.
Where's Pierre Larouche? The first 50 goal scorer in Penguin's history...and the 3rd highest goals per game average in team history? Pierre Larouche was a far more important Penguin centre than Brian Trottier.
Where is Jean Pronovost (RW)? First 100 point scorer in Penguins history. Third on the teams all-time goal list, 3rd on the teams all-time goal list, 4th on the teams all-time points list. Higher PPG as a Penguin than Tocchet and Mullen, and far more important a Right Winger than Mark Recchi.
Where's Rick Kehoe (RW)? 4th in goals (4 behind Pronovost), 3rd in Points. Again, a higher PPG than Mullen and Tocchet, and more important than Recchi.
I see you had some Left Wing Problems. Malkin's a natural centre, not a winger. Jordan Staal? Gary Roberts? These are on the list of ultimate Penguins? Jordan Staal is classed as a good player around the NHL......don't let his rookie season fool you....but he does not belong on the Penguins list of all time Left Wingers. Staal had 42 points in 81 games. Barely half a point a game. Another decent left winger also scored 42 points for the Penguins, only needed 46 games...and by the way, this one will be in the Hall of Fame some day (his name was Luc Robitaille). Yes, if despaeration was needed to find a Penguins Left Winger.........I'd take Luc over Jordan.
I'll help you with your LW problem. Lowell MacDonald. More goals than Malkin, Staal and Roberts combined point totals. First 40 goal scorer in penguins history. First Penguin to reach 100 career goals. Has a career PPG as a Penguin of just under 1.00 (306 pts in 328 games). A far better and more important Left Winger to Pittsburgh than Staal or Roberts (the latter two well below a point a game pace for their careers).

I'd have Mullen ahead of recchi on the depth chart. I'll give this a shot.
NY Rangers
Unit 1 W. Gretzky, J. Jagr, B. Shanahan, B. Leetch, B. Park
Unit 2 M. Messier, A. Kovalev, R. Gilbert, S. Zubov, F. Boucher
Unit 3 J. Ratelle, P. Bure, T. Sandstrom, H. Howell, R. Ruotsalainen
Unit 4 A. Graves, T. Domi, E. Tikkanen, R. Greschner, D. Harvey
Goal M. Richter, E. Giacomin
Coach: Herb Brooks
GM: Craig Patrick
A bit unfair since the Rangers are usually the last stop for aging stars, but this list is comprised of guys who contributed when they were in ny. Bure and Tikkanen (he did win a cup) might have been a reach.
I also had the luxury of dipping into 40 years more history with this squad, but I tried to be fair. I also left Kasperaitis and Samuelsson off of my list, but Zubov did start with the Rangers and Jagr has had 2 solid seasons there. Never realized how much crossover there was between the 2 clubs. That list will be for another day...

Ok to caseman I take issue with the goaltending I would put vernon ahead of hasek. Either you didn't watch the 1997 and 1998 playoffs but vernon and yzerman were the story of those years. But other than that I can't argue with the rank of the other all time players you mention. Now to Bob you misread the question. Heere's Johnny wanted debate. So you didn't need to blast him for that. Of course Montreal is the best of all time. Recently they have struggled but they own the most cups. The pens were great in the 1990's they had a small bad streak but have finally turned the corner. No one here is comparing the pens to the likes of richard, so you don't have to be fuming about this. Oh and Johnny I would put whitney in the defenseman list but other than that can't argue with it. You did pick the best penguin coach by far.
