Why or why not?

I do, so I'm wondering if everyone feels this way. I also know that my potential has been clouded by my lack of self worth (previously.)
Either way, I believe that humility with knowledge is a very attractrive combination, so I try not to show off what I "think" I know.

Have a lovely day :)

Let me clarify a bit: I think because I notice that I am more aware of many things (physical, educational, spiritual, emotional, etc.), that I consider that "smarter" in a way. Maybe I should just call it "more aware" than the average bear. I have a lot of curiousity...

I have been accused of that. Being smart and all. Personally I feel that I am wiser then the average person. More so because I always observe people. And when it comes to conversations, I rather listen then speak unless the other person starts to repeat themselves too much. Here on answers, its a totally a new experience. It removes the useless arguments. I am not phased if I get a thumbs down. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. But age does give a big advantage. I notice a lot of young folks here. I am disturbed by the culture that exist out there. No inhibition, no shock value on their part.

I am commonsense smart. I also have a book education. I would not say that I am smarter than the average person but then it depends on your definition of smart. Do I come in out of the rain or am I so smart/curious that I look up to see where it is coming from and drown. There are many who have genius IQ but cannot tie their own shoes. So I fit somewhere in between genius and one toe well over the line of ignorance.

I think I have more horse sense (common knowledge) than the average person. I stop and think before I jump.I think about better ways to do something before I do it.I try to treat people the way I would like to be treated.I am not text book educated to any great amount, and it showes from time to time.I know a lot of people who have degrees out the butt, and asked a simple question will blow there mind.

I know I am smarter than average, because average is 100. I was in Mensa, have common sense, an education, a good career and a wicked sense of humor. Now, if only I were taller.

You have a lovely day, as well.
Smart is knowing how to succeed, survive and thrive. Everyone who can do that, is smart. So, I'm with the average people that get by. Now, above average people excell.
They may not be the most intelligent, but they certainly are the smartest. There are fewer of them and we all know who they are.

You can't possibly say you are SMARTER than another person. It depends on your education level, it depends on your life experience, common sense but each person has different skills and a different outlook on what's important to them. Someone might be more experience in a certain skill level than you but that doesn't make them smarter than you or vice versa.
You should never think that if you do you are suggesting that that person is BELOW you, which is not true we all have a brain we can develop. That is just pure arrogance.

I don't consider myself smarter than average people, but I do know alot of people that I know I am smarter than. The thing is, I don't think that THEY are as smart as the average person, so I think maybe I am the average person. I'm not sure though because everyone that knows me tells me how smart I am, which makes me think that they think I'm smarter than the average person. I don't know, you tell me.

It Might Depend On How Stupid Or Smart The Average or Random Person Is.

When I was in grade school, I 'knew' I was stupid ... my mom and grandparents always told me 'You can do much better than that' even when I brought home a paper with 100% right on it. I ALWAYS had homework to do, and the other kids never got any homework. When I was in junior high school, I was called into the vice principal's office to have a 'talk' ... she said 'I know you can do better ... and I'm going to tell you WHY.' She then pulled out my school records, and showed me my 'I.Q.' score. Then she pulled out a 'calculator sheet' and showed me that was NOT my 'real' I.Q. at all ... I'd been in the second grade when I took THE SAME TEST AS THE EIGHTH GRADERS, and they had 'mistakenly' used the 'age' at grade eight, not at grade one. My 'real' I.Q. was 'well over 165' ...
Of course my grades improved ... because I 'knew' I was 'smarter' than I had believed ... because I had actually come to believe that I was somehow 'retarded' due to ALWAYS HEARING 'You could do better' in some form.
So ... am I 'smarter than the average person' ... yes, and no. I may 'know a lot more facts' (I have an eidetic memory, and can 'process' the facts, not just 'parrot them back' as written as people with 'photographic' memories do) ... but I am also very 'isolated' ... because I 'knew' I was 'retarded' I didn't learn to be as 'social' as others. I sometimes wish I did know that, but ...
I'm now married to a man who is 'extremely similar' to me while not being 'quite the same' ... we are both very 'non-social' people, who actually live in a 'high security building' with a 'locked door' with NO BUZZERS downstairs and three flights of stairs up to our apartment (there are only two apartments on our staircase, and we 'know' our neighbors but are not 'social' with them). We TALK CONSTANTLY when we are together ... and those are both 'totally silly' and also extremely intellectual' conversations. I do most of my 'communication with others' on Y!A now, since I am 'retired' from my career as a psychologist. So ... I may 'know more' than most as far as 'retention of facts' go, but I am still 'retarded' as far as 'social contacts' go ... but I am TOTALLY HAPPY because I am married to my 'best friend' (also partner, lover, and playmate) and I have a female best friend to 'talk to' through letters and e-mail.
I don't think that it's 'right' to ask anyone if they are 'smarter than the average person' because 'smarter' need 'further definition,' and can mean different things to different people. I think it would be better to ask 'are you happier than the average person' ... to which my answer is YES ... but I'm trying to help others to be just as happy as I am ... and that includes you since I am answering your question.

Smarter? Not so sure about that, but my common sense certainly is better than the average bear. Education does not necessarily make one smarter, just educated.
