Of All Time?
Why, of course the correct answer is the 2004 NY Yankees.
Being up 3 games to none in a 7 game series, they totally collapsed and lost 4 in a row to The 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox.
Not only the biggest collapse in MLB, but in all of sports history! And that is a well documented fact!

1964 Phillies blew an 8 1/2 game lead with 14 games to play. That's almost impossible. The 1995 California Angels also blew a large lead with only about a month to go in the season. And of course, the 1951 Dodgers had something like a 15 game lead with a month and a half to go, ended up losing the lead, tying the Giants on the final day of the season and then going down in infamy with "The Shot Heard Round the World".
As for this year, I think it's safe to say that the Brewers have already effectively collapses, now it's a horse race. As for teams that seem safely in the playoffs at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers start to falter. Over the weekend their defense started looking like the team that couldn't do anything right in the World Series last year. Kenny Rogers is on the DL and the bullpen is shaky. If Rodney and Zumaya come back at all, it's unlikely they will be as effective as last year. And if Sheffield keeps running his mouth about the Yankees instead of focusing on THE TEAM HE PLAYS FOR NOW (that idiot) I can see him being more of a cancer than a help. And seriously, can Magglio stay that hot all year? He's due to slump at a crucial point in the season.

The greatest collapse of all time is the New York Giants being up 15 games on July 4, 1914. They ending up losing the division to the Boston Braves.
The Mets will fall on their faces in '07!

The 2004 Yankees
The team that will collapse this year will be the Cubs, it's not a question of when they will collapse but how they will this year.
Remember they're the cubs (99 years without a world series championship)

I think the Boston Red Sox are starting to Collapse, but with them getting Eric Gagne, I think they will stay on top.
This is not so much of a collapse as it is a team coming back from behind. I think the Mets will lose the lead to the Atlanta Braves since they got Dotel and Teixeira. The Braves have added a clean-up hitter in Teixeira and a more reliable Closer in Dotel.
Watch for the Braves to pull into first before the post season.

Well, the best Almost-collapse was the 2005 White Sox, but I can bet that the honor goes to the Cubs, because theyre the Cubs.
The team that falls apart this year is going to be the Brewers or the Angels.

Red Sox, 1978. 14 game lead in the middle of July. Some years the Royals weren't out of the divison lead by more than 14 games. Gotta be the biggest collapse ever.

I agree with a previous poster...greatest collapse was by the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS...as for this year if you really call it a collapse I would have to say the Brewers...they will finish second to the Cubs this year.
