The motorcycle magazines did a major helmet review and study recently and found that many of the more inexpensive helmets protected your head as well or better than more expensive models. That does not mean it will fit the intended wearers head well, comfortably or the way you like.
Given that, I've found good deals at http://www.extremesupply.com/
Right now they have some Scorpion EXO-700 models for $150.00. These helmets have been very well liked by many riders I know. Good ventilation, easy off face screen, washable liner. They are not the lightest helmets but at that price a very good value.

The most important thing in a helmet is the fit - YOU CAN"T TRY IT ON ON-LINE.
In general, 2nd hand helmets are not a good idea, as helmets take on the shape of the wearer's head. Find the extra and get a new one. Try it on in the shop - it should be a little tight.

Dont buy it online and 100 dollars is not enough. Although a helmet may be DOT and Snell certified you cannot be sure that it will fit your head well enough in a crash. Low end helmets usually do not have removeable pads which create a better fit...the cheek pads will crush over time. Its your head and life on the line if you crash....

1. Cheap helmet for a cheap head.
2. Do not buy a helmet on line.
The helmet has got to fit the person wearing it or it will not be comfortable or worse it will not do what it is meant to when something bad happens. Different makes of helmets fit different head shapes so the best bet is always go to a reputable bike shop and try them on. Do not go cheap on something that could save the life of you or your pillion.

For $100, you get a helmet. Now, what do you mean by respectable? A décent full face helmet (you will notice that in all the respectable magazines, the riders wear full face) one that is certified will cost you much more than that. How much is the person who will wear that helmet worth for you?
