No. I think that hand-washing clothes is very effective. I do it more and more since I have retired. I can presoak items for as long as I wish, I use the rinse water from one load to wash the next, and I use the wash water to flush the toilets. It takes longer to wash items, and I cannot use very hot water, but I am satisfied with the results. I have a couple of acquaintances overseas that always wash their clothes by hand. And I always like to remind people that in the days of Jesus, there were no washing machines and they got by just fine.

It's not innefective if you're not making sure you do it thoroughly!! . I've heard at times that even after someone might wash some clothes in a machine.. That they'd re`wash maybe a favorite pair of pants by hand to have more comfort I suppose !?! I guess if you do'nt want to wash them twice in a machine !?! Hands on is your best bet I suppose R r R r ....

A lot of people in the developing countries still hand wash since its economical. Use a good brand of detergent to soak the clothes for a small period of time. Then, use a good scrubbing brush to brush on all problem spots and agitate the clothes on some hard surface. Then properly rinse the clothes. Then air dry the clothes. Using hot water and bleach on whites helps keep them sparkling.

Several decades ago, when I was really, really poor....I washed our laundry in a laundry tub, by hand.
Merely dipping the clothes up and down isn't going to get them clean ~ they need to be agitated somehow. In the pioneer days, they used a wash board or a hand held clothes agitator (it looks like a plunger with a metal cone on the end)....I discovered a wooden paddle also worked.
Depending on how dirty the clothes are ~ you'll have to agitate them between 10 and 5 minutes. If you are washing just a couple of garments at a time, they can be agitated by hand for a couple of minutes.
Rinse your laundry throughly to get the soap out , using the same type of agitating action.
It took me all day to wash our family's laundry using this method ~ but they came out spotless.

Oh lord, don't listen to her, what about in the past when there was no washing machines? In fact, if you have some kind of special or delicate piece of clothing that you want to keep looking like new, wash it by hand, in cold water and use dark Woolite, if it's dark colored; or, in warm water and clear Woolite, if it's white or light colored. Just make sure to rinse it very well. y You can add a little of fabric softener to the last rinse.

Washing your clothes by hand will still wash them.
Consider the laundering habits of people before the days of washing machines.
Just soak the clothes a few at a time in the sink in warm, soapy water.
Using rubber gloves, scrub-rub and slosh them by hand; rinse twice, and wring out.
Shake out well; hang up to dry.

It works just fine. People love to make up ridiculous tales. The "cycles" in a washing machine simply replace the work a woman would normally do by hand before washers were invented. Very labor intensive, but doable.

How old are you? No it isn't true and if you wash things carefully by hand it could possibly benefit them more than going through the rigors of a machine washing. I hope your fortunes improve soon.Good luck.

i think to wash large things like shirts and towels by hand would be labor intensive as well as ineffective (and a waste of time too). however you can wash underwear by hand in the sink and that's fine maybe even better. i hope you generate some cashflow to ease this hassle because it sounds jacked up. laundry is something that needs to be done often and without pain
