Would the world be a better place if people had to acknowledge reality when it was presented to them, and were no longer allowed to delude themselves when it was convenient?

i think we do have to aknowledge reality at some time. the world would be a great place if everyone realized that people need our help. and if they did everything they could to help.

I used to think this, but reality is a very hard thing to deal with all the time. My point is there are some people who would be deeply, emotionally wounded by the truth that is reality. Being deluded is a defense mechanism that allows people to keep on living. No many times the truth isn't life-threatening but in order to protect themselves most people over-do it. Sometimes don't you ever want to give in and just think something to make it all feel better? In the end, the truth is best though, as hard as it may be.

Yes. Drugs and alcohol for example, if you overdose, you die. If you drink too much and get alcohol poisoning or drink and drive, you just may die. People that use video games to escape reality, stop ignoring your loved ones because the reality you face is a divorce, losing your children (over a stupid game), losing all contact with the outside world.
No matter what you do, reality is always there.

Personally I think everyone is 'deluded' in one way or another. But as for the question I think the world would be a better place and mankind would be screwed.

If you can define reality in a way that all the beings living on earth can agree upon then you have done something never achieved in human history. Good luck.

Well when i talk to someone who doesnt like to acknowledge reality, it is so hard to talk to them because they are in their own little world. Ignorance is not bliss, not always.
The world would be better, people need to face the facts!
