People born in America are not called Mexican, they are called American ar Mexican-American.
I'm not on board with the whole hyphenated American thing.

Probally it is easier to put a 'label' on someone...
i know many people that are of mexican ancestry, yet born here in the states, but are referred to as mexican.
How about african americans? they been in the states for generations but are referred to as african americans, yet there was a story a few years back where a school had a voting contest for the african-american person of the month and someone that was born in south africa but lived in the states won, but becuase he was white and not black he was disqualified... because he was not a 'real' african american, but he was an african american, much more so than the blacks in the americas that have been here for generations... The term african-american has evolved to mean anyone that is black and lives in the states, even if that person was from haiti or jamaica....
So, calling people with mexican ancestry that are americans is out of ignorance... If my grandparents were from Belgium, does that make me a walloon? or a flander? or just a belgian-american?
It is out of ignorance.

Because at some point in time Political "Correctness" became in vogue. Black people became African Americans, Mexicans became Mexican American instead of just Mexican or Hispanic.Secretary's are now Administrative Assistants, Garbage Collectors are Sanitation Workers, Postmen are Letter carriers etc......

America goes from Canada to Argentina and Chile....
So there are a lot of people in America called differently depending on the country they were born in.

Because they have Mexican heritage/ethnicity, as opposed to having a Mexican nationality. It seems a little silly, doesn't it, since there's no way to determine what "race" you are by blood factors. And there's a reason, too -- the concept of "race" is made-up, all so that we can differentiate ourselves from one another in just one more way. *sigh*

I believe it is because their ethnic origin is Mexican and their Ancestors are Mexican but the proper term should be Mexican American. I feel that no one should forget their unique ethnic origin. I love to learn the customs and traditions of others.

It's just like a person being called a German who was born here and was never even to Germany. It's just your nationality.

Because the North American continent contains Canada, US, and Mexico. So, some Americans will be Mexicans.

Because its the same thing as any one with a tiny percentage of any other culture in their blood become 'black' or 'mexican' yet they could have 90% white genes yet still don't call themselves 'white'- why is this??? Its a bit hypocritical and racist.
