It comes from the Bible. Revelation 13:16-18, to be precise. Here's what those verses say:

"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."

Now, if you take this to be literally true, the first thing that bears pointing out is that there is never drawn a connection between the 'mark of the beast' and the 'number of the beast'. A person may choose to believe that 666 has to do with the mark of the beast, but there is no evidence to be gained to support that view from the bible whatsoever (the verse says the mark OR the number).

So if we take verse 18 by itself, 666 is sort-of the 'number of the beast' and it is also 'man's number'. The verse calls for both 'wisdom' and 'insight', so that suggests that 666 does not have an obvious meaning, or it would require no wisdom or insight at all, neh?

Some have taken the hint from the word 'calculate'. Why would you have to 'calculate' anything if the answer is already handed to you? They believe therefore that 666 is a kind of code which can be deciphered into a name or something else. Unfortunately, if this were true, there are literally dozens of very plausible names it might be deciphered into.

Some people throw a whole bunch of extra interpretation into it and just associate the number with evil altogether. Again, there's nothing from those verses to in any way encourage this. But people do wacky stuff sometimes.

Just yesterday I heard mention that 666 was Nero's address in Rome. The bible says that it is the number of a man. The Catholic Church as an extension of the Roman Empire. The social security number is required at birth. Many have suspected the connection for years. Who actually owns Corporate America? Who actually is the force of the Machine? The all seeing eye on the one dollar bill. Who is the vortex behind the eye? [ the Pyramid] How could it all be so obvious yet no one seems to care????

It doesn`t matter why people think what they think and believe what they believe, but their focus on them does matter. First a habit of thought is created after some time (usually not immediately) and then comes the attraction. If we all understood the mechanics of this we would live happier lives but that is probably an idle dream. Why? Because we mechanically are mechanical and this includes being predominantly either positive or negative types. This means that some will react positively and focus on the positive aspects and some on the negative aspects ^^FIRST^^. They then may or may not look at other aspects and that also depends on the mix of types or it may even be that the person is aware of their predispositions and consciously attempt to balance themselves out. I may be aware that a 666 has a negative biblical connotation but I don`t need to give it any negative energy.

If you believe that the letter written by a guy named John 1900 years ago to the people of a similar belief system as himself held some kind of magic then you will also fall to the 'mind control'. It was a letter to a group of people intended to uplift and inspire those who conformed to the belief and scare those who wavered back into conformity. It is just another club and a senior member was trying to get the club fired up. 666 just represents man's number as according to an earlier oral tradition man was created on the 6th day and women were made from that man's rib. It's all just poetic nonsense. It is no different than any other belief system at all. If you want to be a member of that club then you must conform to the club's rules, regulations and traditions. Failure to do so will result in punishment or expulsion from the club and the this club even adds a little caveat that you will also be punished after you die. 666 has no meaning other than mystic poetry to those it was written to.

This is NO SUPERSTITION WHAT SO EVER, this is PROPHETIC and actually hapening right now.
It comes from these verses:
Rev 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
Rev 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Rev 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

And we can now find those numbers on bar codes (not the numbers but the bars) and they are included in most chips that we will have to have on us or in our cards (ID cards that will identify us all over the world with our personal info, and our bank accounts etc.)

If you want to know more about this, there are so online videos (free to view online) about these signs of the end times:

But they are very real, very true and very actual, if you make a good reading/study of the bible propheties

God bless you

It's the number of the Beast in the book of Revelation, chapter 13, verse 18. It probably was a code used by John to refer to the Emperor Nero. The number itself is not worth getting upset about. For instance, on June 6 of 2006 (06/06/06), a lot of people were very nervous about the date. Not much happened that day, as I recall.

It never meant much in the first place, and wasn't supposed to. It has been blown out of proportion by ignorance as to its meaning.

There is nothing sinister, nor superstitious about it -- it simply is a much misunderstood symbol that many have latched onto. Why? Perhaps because it seemed so mystic because of being so seriously misunderstood.

I think it's more likely to be superstition. 666 is the number of the devil. According to the bible, the Antichrist has that mark, but I don't think that's true, however, that's religious and there are people that believe it. As I know, it has no meaning, but it's the mark that has the devil.

He who has understanding, let him calculate the number
of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is six hundred
sixty-six.

All life on earth is carbon based, human and animal or beast.
Carbon-12 being the more abundant of the two stable isotopes of the element carbon, accounting for 98.89% of carbon; it contains 6 protons, 6 neutrons and 6 electrons.

Or 666.

The atomic number of an element indicates the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom of that element. For example, an atom of carbon has 6 protons in its nucleus so its atomic number is 6. No other element has atoms with 6 protons in their nuclei. The atomic mass of an element indicates the total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom of that element. A proton and a neutron have almost the same mass. Scientists use atomic mass units (amu) to report the mass of atoms. Protons and neutrons each have a mass of 1 amu. On the periodic table, the atomic mass for carbon is listed as 12.011. If you round this figure down to 12, then it indicates that carbon atoms have 12 protons and neutrons in their nuclei. Since we know that carbon has 6 protons from its atomic number, then we can calculate the number of neutrons by subtracting the atomic number from the atomic mass (atomic mass - atomic number). In this case, carbon has 6 neutrons in its nucleus. So why is the atomic mass of carbon listed as 12.011 on the periodic table? Most elements consist of two or more isotopes. Isotopes are atoms of the same element, but with different atomic masses. Carbon has three isotopes: carbon-12, carbon-13, and carbon-14. All of these isotopes of carbon have atoms that contain 6 protons in their nuclei. The difference between these isotopes is the number of neutrons in their nuclei. Carbon-12 atoms have 6 neutrons, carbon-13 atoms have 7 neutrons, and carbon-14 atoms have 8 neutrons. Any sample of carbon will contain all three isotopes. This is why the atomic mass for carbon is 12.011.

Love and blessings Don
