237 reasons we have sex

By SETH BORENSTEIN, AP Science Writer 17 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - After exhaustively compiling a list of the 237 reasons why people have sex, researchers found that young men and women get intimate for mostly the same motivations. It's more about lust in the body than a love connection in the heart.

They cpuld of saved a ton of money as I would have charged them much less for the same answer ! DUH!

It sounds in the article like private money was used to fund the study. The university could be lending its good name, since researchers were employed there, but nonetheless, the study could have done during their off hours. After all, academics don't really work a 40 hour week.

In addition, since the study was about WHY people have sex, its findings could be useful to those who promote abstinence. In fact, it could have been proposed by the abstinence only folks, for all we know. My guess is that that's what's behind it and it was in fact privately funded.

Well if you read the article, no tax money was spent on it. Researchers were interested in it enough to spend their own money.

"Researchers at the University of Texas spent five years and their own money to study the overlooked why behind sex while others were spending their time on the how."

UPDATE - hey, I'm just going by what's in the article YOU referenced. Perhaps they used U of Texas resources that weren't being otherwise used, but it doesn't sound like much of the taxpayers money went to this. I'm sure students use university resources for all sorts of non-academic things. Why aren't you complaining about the tax money being wasted on those things.

wow, your info is terrible. half of what you listed are COLLEGE FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS. the students and the school came up with their own funding or got it from their alumni, not taxpayers. so you already look bad now. secondly, most of those silly studies are done either by private entities or extremely smart people looking to build up a resume. not the gov. here's what the Gov would fund; -research ecological and physiological affects of mass oil on coastal beaches and coastal wildlife. -safety ratings of highways, freeways, dirt roads, side streets, ECT. and did you look at your source? Hannity Cain from FOX Network. im a conservative and I can't stand FOX news. they in no way shape or form deliver legit journalism. just like MS-NBC. its a sponsored news station that will pump out misinformation for ratings. and they clearly suckered you into it.

I find it interesting that the conservatives here are outraged at the thought of such an INCOMPREHENSIBLY STUPID waste of money, while the libs are taking the 'it's private money so it's none of your business.........'. Hmmm, one would think the libs would find a better use for that money...........ANOTHER SOCIAL PROGRAM perhaps? Think of the thousands of people that money could've helped instead of lining a few 'researchers' pockets.

First it states that they spent their own money on it, so there is really not much point to your question. Those working on their Master's and PHD degrees often conduct research as part of their learning experience so what do you want to do? Shut down all the Universities? Then we will just have more people like you, just giving half of the story to use for their own agenda. Next time try giving all of the information instead of the part that pushes your opinion.

reasons for sex, or excuses for sex? or a poor excuse for sex.

Researchers at the University of Texas spent five years and their own money to study the overlooked why behind sex while others were spending their time on the how.

But the scientists got their study money. Much they same as the man-made global warming scientists will continue to get their cash cows, as long as they don't do anything stupid like tell the public that it's the sun causing it. Follow the money.

It's private money so they can spend it how they see fit. They can field test their theories on Padre Island with a few thousand test subjects and it will still be cool with me.
