laptop is my main computer but installation disc not working

you dont have to use your installation disk to create a wireless connection,windows has a wireless connection wizard built into windows xp(service pack 2)
go to start>control panel>wireless connection wizard>then follow the instructions within the wizard
you will need your w.e.p(wireless encryption protocol)or w.p.a key,these will be required during set up
you will also find that changing the wireless band(g and b) sometimes helps so if you using the newer g band go and try b,they both use the same speeds

Try installing the software in safe mode. If that does not work open up the CD and find the installation icon and click on it.
