Hello, My Older sister, went to a store to copy her SS # her son's SS # (her son is about 10 months old) Her Husbands SS # and Her birthcertificate, that has our Moms SS # on it, well she went to the store to copy those, and i guess she left them on the counter when she paid for them, and she left, (w/o the copies or the originals) And she went back to the store (I'm guessing after she got home) and realized she forgot them there, she went back to the store and said she left them, there and they can't find them.
We live in Michigan, Is there some Government office that we can call, and report this? Or is there anything we can do?

we are not worried about having the cards... We are worried that someone picked them up and, could possibly commit identity fraud with them

You report the missing SS to the nearest SS office. I don't
know what more they can do other than re-issuing new cards
and new numbers. You also can ask them about the birth
certificate. They will probably re issue a new card to your
mom as well. Anytime you have a live persons signature that
can be copied, is worrisome. Those could be used of course by someone with malicious intent. You can always get a copy of a birth certificate by contacting the courthouse in the town where the person was born. I believe there was a slight fee
when I had to get a copy of a marriage certificate at one time.
I recently lost my ID card at one of two dental offices. Either
one claimed they could find it also. I can't recall if my SS was
on it or not, since it isn't for driving. So I can identify with your
anguish and frustration, worrying about identity theft.

Get a replacement SS card at Social Security. Download the form at SSA.Gov. Contact the records dept, usually in Dept. Of Health, in the city in which you were born to arrange for a copy. It may take several weeks for a certified copy.

u can try and call the social security office in ur city and tell them what happened or go to the office in person they will more than likely just reissue another card. as far as the birth certificate she will just have to get another one from vital records or some health departments will get them for u within minutes for a fee.
