Why do some people persist in giving really quite exceptionally long answers to the briefest of questions when they're clearly not required and their answers are really monotonous and boring to read, why don't they make their answers snappy and concise and to the point when all we want to know is the answer in a couple of words and not their synopsis of 'war and peace' on the subject in hand, do they think they are being smart in giving overdetailed answers and are they showing off a bit as I suspect or are they under the impression that the person asking the single line question is really interested in their inane ramblings and indeed has the patience and inclination to read their long winded and sometimes overcomplicated ( and therefore not really answering the question ) opinion or answer to the question at hand, bearing in mind that scrolls and scrolls of text on these pages are not the most exciting thing to read especially if you are only after a short and to the point answer to

That is the way I feel too.
I don't believe anyone reads the long questions or answers.
I know I don't. I'd much rather get a short answer that is right to the point without all the unnessary explanations

For a start , some people give a long answer because they like to get into this writing thing ,they feel a rush of adrenaline with every letter punched into the keyboard, they fly like the wind with every comma, and fullstops only slightly bring them down to ground.Other people have lots to say , and whilst writing their answers , others pop up and then more and more.Other people are only doing it for the sake of the asker , and are deluded (poor things) into believing the asker really wants pages and pages of cut and pasted nonsense.
Other people are actually in practise for their own personal war and peace , and all their little works of art will be assembled one day to form a book of bookshelf breaking dimensions.About everything on earth .Other people are only in it to fill up a few more hours of their lonely little lives. Some people believe(mistakenly again) that if they are paying for internet connection, then they may as well get full value by sending lots and lots of correspondence.
Other people are in search of their kindred spirits, or a soul mate , and its a weird mating display between the sexes , that you and I have probably not noticed .
I hope that answers your question . My preferred responce would have been "because they are a**l".

If a 3 to 6 hundred word answer to you is long winded then that's sad. Why didn't you make your question "Snappy" and "Concise"? Without counting it looks close to 200 words. I'm sorry, am I rambling on here? Truthfully sometimes I feel one line question are asked by people who did not take the time to explore the complexities of the issue. Therefore we who have insight try to answer the question by covering all aspects. Besides all that it is up to the person who asked the question to decide if the answer is too long. Not you!

Hey folks,

I thought I would weigh in on this one (although I normally don't to this kind of question).

I think the answer is that people desperately want others to see how much they know. They are smart people, and they want others to know it. It's very tempting to continue going on and on about something you know a lot about. I very often see very simple questions answered with all kinds of gooey gobs of data that was not asked for, and to be honest, it does annoy me. Many times I know all of this information too, but since it isn't necessary to answer the question, I don't feel the need to write an essay and waste time that could be spent doing other things.

Above all else, I always do my very best to ANSWER THE QUESTION THAT WAS ASKED. Many of these people either:

1) Answer the question, and then give tons of information that wasn't asked for.

2) Give tons of information that wasn't asked for WITHOUT answering the question, or

3) Answer a different question that has a vague connection to the one that was asked.

Sometimes (this question being an example), the question requires a more in depth explanation. But I agree that many people overdo it just to show off.

Why do some people ask incredibly long winded questions? Are they so thick that there is so much they don't know. Does their ignorance allow them no shame.........

I could go on but i won't i'll keep it concise for you.

You do have a point, however some questions do require long answers.
