Most prepaid Visas applications are safe to use your social security number.

Were you aware that prepaid Visas can also be purchased at retail locations? Walmart, supermarkets, etc. No need to give your SS number, just load the card in the amount you wish.

Good luck.

All prepaid cards (except Gift Cards) require your Social Security Number, it's the law (The Patriot Act) so the prepaid companies don't have a choice but to collect it.

NetSpend has the fastest selling prepaid card and is generally very trustworthy (it has 300 employees and deals with major companies like Capital One) compared to some prepaid card companies that seem to be run by a couple of guys in a closet.

You can order NetSpend's All-Access card online here:

If you don't want to fill out the form online you can go to a store instead, NetSpend sells cards at 15,000 locations nationwide. You should feel comfortable trusting your data to this company online though.

Do like I always do when asked for my social security number over the phone or on line. Use the first three numbers because that they are a code as to where you got your social security card. Then the rest pull numbers out of the air. Never give your Social over the Internet or Phone. I won't even give my right Social over the phone when talking to the company I am working for.
