like they are SO great. Well I think they suck really. Of course they use less electricity, they only give off about 17 volts worth of light! This is just enough that I still have to feel for the walls to not bang into them, I might as well be in the dark!

Why do people like these bulbs so much?

I use them in areas that don't require good, bright light. I do like the fact that they last so much longer though. I have one on my porch that is turned on from dusk to dawn every night and I haven't had to change it in 5 to 7 years. When I used standard bulbs, I was changing them every three months.

I think it depends partly on the brand. I used one brand that sucked and another that has about the same amount of light emanating from the bulb as the regular old ones.

Sometimes I will by a higher voltage equivalent.
For example, if I need a 60 watt bulb I might by the equivalent of a 75 watt bulb --it still saves energy and I still get the light I need.

I also have a three part torch lamp and I can use all three bulbs at the same time pointing in different directions and get the same effect while using less electricity. In this case it was actually WAY too much light with the regular bulbs which would make one say "Just use one bulb then" but then it would only be pointing in one direction and not three!

Other than that, I have gotten used to the few I improperly picked that give low light.

I am clueless because I don't like the very color they cast. I am very fair skinned and these bulbs make me look deathly ill. Plus, we just got a notice from our trash collection service that we cannot dispose of them in our recycles or our regular trash and have to take them to the monthly household round-up as if they were a hazardous waste. But, then again, I live in SoCal where every enviornmental nutcase in the universe lives and we protect the kangaroo rat! So, I save energy by using candles at night to light my way, they smell wonderful and give off just as much light as the twisty bulbs. But, guess I'm not reducing my carbon imprint by much...

I like their light a lot! They are a whole lot brighter than incandescent bulbs. What wattage did you buy?

But they are fluorescent and require special disposal. Thing is, they last so much longer you probably only have to do it about once a year.

i have them in every room in my house and they r no different than the regular ones. they light up my house just fine and dont make u look deathly ill and they save me some money on my light bill. different brands could possibly cause negative effects. try using some different ones.
