It doesn't...Rosemary hasn't got a nose, silly...She says "Duh" as her eyes roll to the left. ;)
If you really want to know what it smells like then kinda spicy or peppery. You can usually find it at a grocery store...sniff away.

They probably are the real deal. Your Thyme will be fine. they survive very cold temperatures and grow like a weed. Your rosemary may not be alive. They don't tolerate any frost. It is a perennial though so if you get a new one, bring it inside for the winter. If you want to plant some frost hardy herbs, here's a list of frost hardy perennial herbs --Chives, savory, lemon balm, lavender, Oregano and Sage. Basil is an annual and parsley is a biennial. It grows a usable plant the first year. Then it sends up a flower stalk much like Dill. If you leave it until the seeds ripen then you can scatter the seed around and it will come up the next spring. If you don't want to bother with that then treat it like an annual and get a new plant every year
