... allows you to play a copied DVD on another player? I have an older VHS to DVD recorder, but the DVD's can't play in any other player but that one it was copied from. I want to avoid this. What brand VHS to DVD recorder should I buy so I'm able to playback in a different player.

You didn't "finalize" the DVD when you burned it. So the only DVD player that will recognize it, is the one that made it. Go back to your menu (& manual), if it is hidden well, as it usually is, you'll find it in a sub-menu. Once you finalize the disk, (you can still do it), it'll play in another recorder. Odds are your older VHS to DVD is a generic Walmart.

Before you try that, have you finalized the recorded DVD??? Without finalizing, only the recorder will play the DVD. Once finalized it should play in any recent vintage DVD player.

How do I know this? I own two DVD recorders. One is a Cyberhome DVD recorder ( piece of cr*p) and the other is a Toshiba DVD recorder. Both have to have the disk finalized before it would play in any other unit.
