The United Nations is a noble concept, but it is totally lost in today's world. This is why the US and Britain do thing's alone, the UN simply doesn't work there is to much politics involved to get any thing positive achieved !! :)

It's a waste but honestly, what the heck would be a reasonable alternative? No UN whatsoever? The United States, and I am not proud of thise, devalued the whole thing when we invaded Iraq.

The United Nations is like any other governing body and only has an agreed upon value. The nations of the world have to agree that it's the proper forum through which to conduct busiess and they have to agree to respect the decisions made there. Otherwise, it's a waste of everyone's time.

The UN has failed time and time again. When an event like the genocide of a whole nation occurs it takes the UN much too long to respond. They are too afraid to hurt anyones feelings. Thats why most of the world is put out with the United States. We have had the honor of having presidents who aren't scared to rattle some cages and get the job done. The problem is with world opinion and the media. The United States is not a bully. We are the country that stands up to the bully's of the world and I'm glad that some presidents we've had don't give a rats *** what the rest of the world thought. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing regardless of what everyone else thinks.

You made an interesting point there - "the money spent on it". I think you've highlighted a fundamental dificiency of the organisation, in that due to the limited funding, resources, political will etc. directed towards the organisation, the UN is often perceived as a failure.

I think it's important to consider that whilst ongoing disputes continue, the UN has been vastly successful in preventing the onset of global conflict, which was a goal of it's creation in those early year preceeding WWII.

Any failures/dificiencies of the organisation (and I'm not suggesting there is a shortage of these), can be attributed to a failure of its member states - i.e. "we, the peoples of the united nations".

Well her we go...it started with of course the League of Nations...so totally destined to failure..then along comes the edifice on the Hudson, I believe,...also destined for failure...as long as there is no equality of all nations and the war mongers have final say then yes it is a disaster waiting to happen..a very expensive one at that and of course the US is still behind millions if not billions in support payments..ok,,now, the Hopi Indian Prophecy says, and you know I like what it says, is that there are 4 groups ...one in charge each of earth, wind, fire and water..the North American Indians are the earth and until they are included as a equal, any attempt at world peace is not possible...so, I hope I have it all right since it has been a long time since I read the prophesy but you can find it in search if you are interested....there, a totally different perspective

You want me to be frank? OK, you asked for it.

The UN is a cesspool of festering **** that serves no useful purpose today, even if it did at one time. They money we spend on it is either wasted in bureaucracy or goes into the coffers of nations that hate us via development programs. It did nothing with Rwanda was experiencing a genocide in 1994, and it still drags it feet today with Sudan. It kicked out a valuable US ally (Taiwan) in favor of a vicious dictatorship (China). It's security council is dominated by developed countries, 2 of which are dictatorships (Russia and China) that provide poor nations (especially African ones) with little say. It is very anti-Semitic, always voting against Israel but staying silent in the face of Palestinian terrorism. They even recognized the infamous terrorist Yasser Arafat as a legitimate leader! The human rights council is a joke (it has Cuba on it!) and we should take our money and invest it in something useful, like the Community of Democracies (a relatively new organization of democratic states) or N.A.T.O. We should then call in the parking tickets of UN diplomats, make a ton of money, and then kick them all out of the US. We could then use the buildings as shelters for the poor and homeless. That would be the best thing to do. Then again, investing our money in pet monkies would be better than spending it on the UN.

There doesn't seem much point if the United Nations are not United! All should be United in one common interest in saving our world, and preventing, damage, destruction and poisoning. The common goal being survival - I wonder why man cannot be United on this matter.

If it cannot be united - then it should be renamed = Each country spends its own money on it or not.

The UN is the biggest waste of time and money. They are more corrupt than almost any form of government in the world.
Oil for food ring a bell? That is just one example. The security council is a joke. Nobody abides by their resolutions, NOBODY. This is due to the fact that they are worthless and weak, nothing gets enforced. N. Korea, Iraq, Iran, multiple african nations, all just give the UN Sec. Council the finger and nothing happens. They just move on to the next problem in the world and pass more resolutions.

Since its all been said I'll keep it light.

The UN is a waste of U.S. dollars and we should pull out. Even the nations that it was built to defend against have folded or changed.
