The song enters your thoughts and you immediately say to yourself (Why am I thinking about this song?" It is impossible to try and not think about something, so just try and focus your thoughts on a completely different subject.

Usually the last song I hear on the way to work is the one that I can't get out of my head for the rest of the day. It's a real pain if it happened to be some crappy one that I didn't like!!

well the thought process is a very complicated thing. the human mind is the most elaborate and high tech computer there is. when it hears a song it stays [programmed , and it is hard to over ride but try to think of something else and eventually it Will go away.

yes, it's a tricky thing. I just hate to sing songs I don't even like, but they simply nest inside my mind when, for example, I pass by a cafe with the loud music playing in, or something like that. it's hard to avoid it without an effort. I can't explain the thing exactly, it's more like that I agree with you.

It happens to me almost daily but very few people seem to get it? I've even taken to ensuring the last song before I get to work is one I like or it annoys me all day.

Aaargh!! It happens to me all the time. The other night I had a radio jingle going round and round in my head for ages when I was trying to sleep. It kept me awake. "It's the Chris Moyles Show, it's the Chris Moyles Show" Why oh why?!!

That is a good question, and I've never thought about the why before, at least not neurologically. Maybe this link can help you find out more.
