Do you really think the whole stigma about homosexuality, or sexuality in general is forced on you by others and society?
Or do you perhaps think that maybe you are making a bigger deal out of it than others?
What I am asking is do you think it is real, or just perceived?
Do you think the issues may be self imposed?

WISDOM; we all are born in sin and shaped by the practices of sin. there are generational blessings and generational curses , most believers only speak on generational blessings. therefore humans are controlled by the spirit of GOD through a personal relationship with JESUS or controlled by the spirit of Satan based on the fall of ad om & eve.

It's a little bit of both, really.. Some people just make such a big deal out of it. And then there are those people who call themselves 'Christians' [who don't act like real christians at all] who make everything worse for us all. Personally, I would rather just live my life being treated on the same level as everyone else. I don't think the issues are self imposed-They're there.. Whether I would want them to be or not.

I think there are issues with both sides personally.

Coming out is a really big deal, but we sometimes think people won't accept us for that, but in fact most of our friends and parents will, whether or not they disagree with it in their heads or not.

But, there are definitely people out there who really do -hate- homosexuals, bisexuals, transgenders, and what not. They will not hesitate to voice their opinions at the drop of a hat, and usually won't listen to logic or reason. Those people can't change.

Even with so many accepting people, there is definitely a stigma, and it's sad there has to be a stigma at all.

The oppression of and discrimination against homosexuals is real and encouraged by the religions, particularly the religious right who call themselves Christian (but aren't). Even in more enlightened societies, there are often still entrenched areas of discrimination to do with things like superannuation, hospital visiting, funerals and civil unions.

all of the above. through religion, society, even advertisements, there is a certain perception of what is"normal" thus creating an active stigma toward those who don't fit in to that particular box.

I challenge you to buy a gay rights T-shirt and wear it around you town on a busy day. Then you will truly understand if we are making a big deal out of it or not.

Here is a link to an FBI site on hate crimes. You will see the number of "reported" hate crimes.

This will not include all of the stares and comments we receive daily.

Let your boss think you are gay and see how fast you get fired. Then you will have the answer to this question. No you do not have to be gay, just say or do something that might lead him to think it.
