There is a definite scare of being labelled a racist among white people today - in the eyes of the media if you are proud and reject afrocentric versions of history, you are labelled a racist.
By the way i am white, and I know this is a generalisation, but from what I have experienced - through the media, conversations with friends of all races and political correctness, it seems that the general media would label any white person who doesn't hate their own race is a white supremacist.

Why can't we all just be individuals is exactly my point - but for some reason people tend to join in rather than refuse to get involved in the pettiness - which in turn draws others in too...
I don't know about you, but when I think of Black pride, I think of liberation and freedom, but when I think of white pride, I think of ignorant racist fools, such as the first answerer. Why is that?

on the whole, I hate generalizations.
But it's a skinny fence; either you ignore past wrongs or you get bogged down by them. I suggest a third: facing past demons makes you stronger, and aids in the healing process for both the wronged culture and the descendents of the perpetrators.

Please don't let the rants you read on here determine what you think "most" white people feel.
"Pride" in any race or group usually implies pride in facing difficulty or struggle, based on their difference from the majority. Since white people are the majority in the U.S., they have had less opportunity to experience struggle as an oppressed group or minority.
"Pride" can also refer to achievements, such as scientific discoveries or artistic creations. However, when looking at achievements, it is only fair to consider the failures as well (slavery, internment camps, etc). So it's difficult for any race or nationality to feel unsullied pride in its history, because every group has committed both great things, and terrible things.
So pride is a tricky word/concept. However, there is no reason that white people should feel inordinately proud or ashamed of their race. I cannot be held accountable for the crimes or achievements made by others - I can only accept that the acts of others may have given me certain privileges or perspectives, and try to put my privileges to good use in the world, and to appreciate the perspectives of others.

I'm white and I dont think the white race is superior to anyone.
I'm also not a racist. There is no reason for me to feel self loathing unless I do something illegal which has nothing to do with my race. When are we going to stop dividing people into categories and just look at them as individuals?

I practice a little thing I like to call "Pride without prejudice".
I'm proud of my genetic culture and heritage, but I just can't bring myself to begrudge anyone their culture or heritage.
It's actually pretty easy. Live and let live. Mock the morons who can't figure out that pride and prejudice are not necessarily mutually inclusive. That includes those morons of any race who can't figure it out.

Obviously you are very ignorant because MOST white people don't believe that nor are we self-loathing with guilt for being white. That is a very large generalization of white people and you might want to reconsider your racist views.

yeah, it's really simple. Be proud of your culture and heritage and respect that of the other races; and to be honest every one regardless of race will always at least slightly prefer their culture to that of the other races, it's natural. The thing to avoid is allowing that pride and preference to interfere with you're respect and regard for other races.

I myself don't feel a need to be superior to anyone else nor do i feel that being white is some kind of biological mistake. Besides most of our white people could never claim to be pure anyhow...

I'm not racist by any means nor am I self-loathing or guilt ridden about being white!
Nor will I apologize for my skin color, I was born white just everyone else is born whatever race they are. No one should apologize nor feel superior because of their race!
BTW- Thanks for the 2 pts.
