More often than not, some companies will use celebrity endorsments where they get items for free, versus paying them, though sometimes they will.
I have seen trainers have people where tshirts with their web site on it in seminars and pay them with a video. Very clever.
There are also a number of companeis that will pay for you to drive around in a car with their logo on it. I can probably dig something up on that if you send me an email.
Think about Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan and Nike. If you are high visability, there are a lot of people that will do what they can to have you use their stuff, including paying obscene amounts of money.

If this is true, I would assume it would be celebrities or models. A lot of times celebrities will be given free clothes, rather than getting paid, in hopes that they will wear them, showing off the brand.

Sometimes they pay celebrities - like professional tennis players. Not just regular people.

Only if you are well-known and attend a lot of celebrity-attended parties, and know a lot of wealthy people.
