How do I switch from Firefox to Internet Explorer as my preferred search engine?

from your IE window go to Tools...Internet Options...Programs...and toward the bottom it has an option to make IE the default browser, (not search engine there is a difference).

I'm assuming that instead of search engine you mean browser.

The easiest way is
1) Open Internet Explorer.
2) Choose TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS
3) under the PROGRAMS tab there will be a check box that says "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser". Check that box
4) Click the APPLY button then the OK button.
5) Close Internet Explorer and open it up again. It will ask you if you want internet explorer to be the default browser. Say yes
