Parole can have different meanings depending on the area and judiciary system. All of the meanings derive from the French parole, meaning "(spoken) word". The term became associated with the release of prisoners based on prisoners giving their word of honor to abide by certain restrictions.

No parole means you will most likely die in prison.

Parole is a supervised release from prison, under the supervision of a parole officer and with other rules.
The difference is that if you're not eligible for parole, you're behind bars for life. If you're eligible, then you may be granted parole after a certain amount of time (usually this is a very long time, for example, for a life sentence with the possibility of parole, you would likely not get paroled or become eligible until you have served at least 15 or 20 years of that sentence).

Parole is also known as supervised release.

Say you get a sentence of "5 to 15 years". You are sentenced to 15 years, but can apply for parole after 5 years. If you are granted parole, you are released, but under certain conditions and restrictions. If at any time while out on parole you violate the conditions of that parole, you go back to prison for the remainder of the sentence. But after 15 years total, you are free.

Say you get a sentence of "25 to life". You are sentenced to life in prison, but may apply for parole after 25 years. However, the limitations and conditions of parole last for the rest of your life.

Life without parole means you stay in for life. Period.

Parole is a chance to earn freedom.

Example:

You're sentenced to 15 to 30 years for manslaughter. After the 15 year minimum of your sentence you can petition for parole. If the parole board decides you're fit for it, they'll grant your release.

If you violate the terms of your parole later you are arrested and you go to jail for the remainder of your sentence (another 15 years)

Life without parole means you have no chance to get out. You die in jail.
