A wide variety of peole use both.
They are ways of keeping in contact with people, and socializing.
I have never used MSN (I use Yahoo or AIM/iChat instead) but they are all the same thing, with different connection locations/owners (MSN-Microsoft, YIM-Yahoo, AIM-AOL)

Age has nothing to do with it. I have seen teenagers through 50+ on both. Just people that like that kind of thing get on them.

As for the rant portion, yes, it happens. some people have to much of a dependance on these things. They live to be online chatting or MySpacing. Good to hear you do more than just veg out in front of the computer all the time!

loads of people use myspace. either to get their music heard or to keep in touch with friends that have moved away. its just a good way to keep people updated about wats happening. it also gives people a chance to express themselves in an individual way that is more widly accepted
