They basically are verufying your signature, that you are who you say you are. You need to take the document to be notarized, a picture ID (license, passport, military ID), and money. Each signature is usually $10.

A notary is pretty much just an official witness, and they are verifying that you are who you say you are. Just bring several forms of ID with you and whatever you need to have notarized.

They stamp what ever you bring into them; to prove that you did sign the form. And you sign the from in front of them, they sign and press their seal on the form after you sign it.
Proof that you are you, picture ID, Passport, Drivers License,do not use your Social Security Number!
