I have two DELL Desktop PC's both running Windows XP. I have an old Compaq running Windows 98 I'm using as a server of sorts where I want to drop files for storage to keep the local Dell hard drives clean. I can see the Compaq shared C: drive from both DELLS, but the Compaq cannot see the shared C: drives on the DELLS. I have set security at Mid level, but I'm obviously missing something. What am I missing?

Thanks Rain and Inclusive. Already did all of those things, IE: Making sure workgroup is the same, drives are shared and doing the XP networking install in the 98 machine. Could be the drive type. Any other ideas, any way to get around the drive type issue?

If the Dells running XP have the drives formatted as NTFS, then chances are your Compaq will not know how to access it. Another alternative is to make sure that the drives on the Dells are set to be shared. One last thing to consider: make sure all the computers are in the same workgroup! To do this, go to the Control Panel, System, Computer Name. Make sure they're all the same under the workgroup name.

You need to use the XP CD to install additional networking components on the Windows 98 computer. Just insert the XP CD, and select (if memory serves) "Install Additional Components" or "Perform Additional Tasks". Something like that.
