It seems that everything we do can be used as part of the radicals' propaganda that we are out to destroy their religion and culture and steal their lands or natural resources. They can point to our actions and say "see we told you thats what they wanted to do".

and everything they do, also bolsters the more radical amongts us as well. So that when they do cut off the head of some christian missionary who is in their land and influencing muslims, we can point to that vile act and say "see we told you these were crazy blood thirsty savages".

This seems to really be a clash of cultures and begs the question....what would happen if we just stopped giving each other opportunities for the other guy to say "I told you thats what would happen"...and use each others actions as propaganda??

Zealots from both sides would never allow that to happen, Pundits on th radio would have nothing to say to roil the masses, Media from both sides suddnly gone quiet

Our country is now geared to an arms economy bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and an incessant propaganda of fear.

I guess beheading really scares Trey, rather than Bombing or shooting, of course beheading kills one at a time unlike bombing. more personal I guess.

The problem I see with democracy in Iraq is that it won't be a secular government. I have many problems with Islamic nations that rule themselves under Sharia Law (mainly surrounding the laws regarding women - none of which have to do with vanity, gays, and those who wish to leave the religion) and I see Iraq heading there. On the same note (religion), it's a major problem I have with the theme of the GOP as of late stating that the framers never intended a secular nation. I can buy that argument, and I feel the free exercise clause shows that. But on the same not they surely did not want a state preferred/sponsored religion, which is why we have the establishment clause. The minute we allow that, it's a slipperly slope to allow laws that are in direct conflict with the Constitution. If there is no respect for man made laws, then a stable democracy cannot exist.

when have Christians cut off The head of a Muslim?

or blown themselves up trying to kill as many non-believers as possible?

or used laws from the 7th century ie stoning public be headings, or cutting thieves hands off?

sure during the crusades the "Christians" most likely did most of these things but some where along the way the Christian nations moved forward while the Muslim countries stayed in the stone age

I guess I'm not so sure that we're fighting a 'war on terror' as much as we're fighting for land and oil. If we were so worried about being attacked in the US, wouldn't we be securing our borders since terrorists are entering our country from our open southern border?

Maybe the propaganda should center more on the UN, NAFTA, SPP, Real ID and microchips, One World government, etc. The religious wars have been going on since the creation of earth and good vs evil. What are we really doing there?

There is a flip side to their propaganda war though, and as much as it might pain people to hear this, it's the reason we need to keep the fight in the Middle East. They will listen to this propaganda every day as long as suicide bombers are blowing themselves up in Israeli pizza parlors or hitting trains in Spain, but when these same fanatics are blowing themselves up down the street, it tends to piss the average Arab off.

By keeping the fight in the M.E. we're showing them the difference between the terrorist's propaganda, and reality. The reality is that they're not noble fighters protecting their religion, but despicable cowards who would rather kill women, children, and foreign hostages than stand toe to toe with their enemy. The main reason we're seeing a turn-around in Iraq is because the people there ( the citizens, not necessarily the government) are turning in these guys to our soldiers. They understand that a man planting a bomb that can kill you just as easily as it kills Americans is not really out to help them.

The best way to defeat Terrorist propaganda is to put the reality right in the face of their target audience, and let them get as tired of it as we are.

You make an excellent point. The terrorists have pointed to US-style colonialism in pushing their ideas of capitalism, religion, culture on other countries as part of the reason for the attacks.

Its too easy to claim the terrorists as the devil and the US as the peaceful angels. Isn't that the same as what they say!

You're right, a lot of this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The US needs to get its troops out of Iraq, and Christian missionaries have no place in Muslim lands, at least for the time being. Muslims believe in one God and that Jesus was a great prophet, so we should just leave them alone.

If what you are suggesting happens, then the side that gives up will be walked all over by the other side. Let's say we stop playing into their hands. They will continue to launch terror attacks, and how would we respond? Do nothing?

Of course.

If we can link every event in the world to the war on terror, the bad guys can link everything we do to be against them.

That's the way fanatical irrational minds work.

So you don't think lying about the premise for an invasion and occupation, killing 100,000+ people, arresting thousands indefinitely with no charges and no representation and no trial, torturing people, etc. aren't helping the US win the hearts of minds of those around the world?

You obviously have not been watching enough Faux News. They'll splain it to you real good.
