I am pretty sure that the black comunity will make it a race issue just like with O.J Simpsom. They will ignore all the evidence and claim that Vick's is being persecuted for being black. No matter that all of the other honest black althetes in the states are not being persecuted.

Just a comment to some of the readers. I am white hispanic. I am not black. My avatar is just a figure. My comments are not motivated by race. I hope Vick's case is decided solely on evidence, not on race.

I hope it doesn't. It would be horrible if the US could be reduced to that. It's not the 60's.

Yeah, it's already leaning that way. The black community is already gathering around Vick and claiming it. They started out with they are being too strict with Vick and his NFL career, which is true in my opinion, and now it turned a race thing. Don't get me wrong, I think every race should back up their own if they are innocent, but when you have Vick's best friend pleaded guilty and saying Vick was the sole financial backing to the dog fighting. The race card is just a quick response to everything and in my opinion makes one look very unintelligant and ignorant. Look at the Duke University rape case. Everyone was claiming that she was in the right and had Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton come out and then look what happened.

Yes, I agree with you, many blacks are going to make this a racial issue. Especially in Atlanta.

(I was so unsure of your post, I checked your profile and read other answers you have given to see if you were for real, considering your black avatar. How refreshing, to read a post from a black person admitting how ridiculous it would be for others to turn Michael Vick's guilt into a case of persecution due to his race. You make some very good points in your details section, some of the same things many of your white counterparts have been thinking. Of course there have been other black posts here admitting that what Michael Vick has done is despicable, but yours is so openly confronting the race situation, it is very refreshing)

No-If the case goes to a jury, it might be difficult to get an unbiased jury. But I don't see any white person involved in the case... neither a victim nor crooked cop.

As far as endorsements he is already convicted. Just like the radio guy Imus. If you have a questionable history and then an indefensible act like "nappy Ho's" or dog fighting on your property the big $$$ endorsement run and hide. Endorsements always have a color preference when it comes to this things and it's -- Always the color of Money

Vick is being accused for more than jsut dogfighting. If he did just that, it still would be wrong, but he ordered the execution of at least 8 dogs that weren't going to perform well. Executed. That is the issue, I believe. Any football player, black or white, would be facing the same scrutiny. If a white player is linked to this, I hope he gets the same punishment.

I hope not. Some may try. Some cold hard facts for people to consume...Vick is facing FEDERAL indictments under RICO statute. Federal indictments come with very high success rates (>90%). His cohorts are flipping on him...before it's all over..he may try to deal to avoid harsher sentence, but i doubt it. I don't see how he can plead out and still play football and make$.

His defense is going to have to be either 'they can't prove it" or "i didn't know they were dogfighting on my property, theres no reasonable argument that i should have known about dogfighting...i never wagered on it, and I never promoted it." I think that's a tough sell, don't you? he'll have to point blame solely on his associates...blame has to fall somewhere.

I don't think that will happen. I don't think there could ever be a repeat of the OJ Simpson trial. there's a lot more evidence this time around, and witnesses, so it's not going to be based on circumstantial evidence. the already have one of his companion cooperating with a plea bargain, so I would say not to expect it.

Also, the current generation is a lot less race conscious.

You will know if it will be a race issue if either Jesse Jackson or the Right Reverend Albert Sharpton make a statement.

If Spike Lee makes a movie about this, he'll make Vick out to be both a hero and a martyr.

Here in ATL it has already turned into a race issue!
I hate it, and it is a shame, but that is how race and politics go sometimes.
On the local ATL blogs there are very steamed people that are angry because of his race.

It will become a race issue in the court of public opinion, but hopefully NOT in the legal court where it matters the most.
