A multi core procccessor speed is calculated by multiplying the speed of one leg times 2 (2000 x 2 = a core two 4000) A multi- core can multi task (run more than one application a t a time.Certainly good for office and school work. A single core runs a single application faster but is very poor at multi-tasking. If your playing games stick to single core, games only use one side of a dual core proccessor so to get to the speed of an amd 64 4000ghz you would have to be using an 8000ghz dual core as the gaming soft ware is not made for dual core yet and dont hold your breath till they do. Were still waiting for 64 bit software and thats been over 4 yrs ! Amds FX series proccessors are actually built just for games and their high price tag is proof of that

A Duo Core is better. With Duo Core, you have two processors, each working at the specified speed, whereas with a Pentium 4, you have one processor working at the specified speed.

So a Duo Core processor at 1.8 Ghz is faster than a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz, becuase 1.8 X 2 = 3.6 Ghz. 3.6 > 3.0
