I purchased an inexpensive laptop recently, on cleanence. It came with Windows Vista. My BF has the same exact laptop, his came with XP. Mine is very slow, and I was wondering if it was because the hard drive is small. how do you upgrade this? is it better to do internal or external? How do you do it?? Help Help Help!!!!!

Probably slow because it's running Vista. If it's a cheaper machine it probably doesn't have quite enough power to run it well. There are a couple of things you can do. First, reduce the visual effects on windows. It will run a bit faster if you turn off some of the bells and whistles. Also, make sure you have enough RAM (Memory). I don't know how much you can put in your machine but put as much as you can. Should be 2GB. Lastly, make sure you aren't running too many programs at one time. Check out your startup folder and remove anything you don't really need. This should help some. Good luck.

1. It's actuall more likely that it is because you have Vista, which seems to be slightly slower than XP in certain situations.

2. You do this by purchasing a new hard drive. Most laptops use a small, 2.5 inch hard drive. You remove a cover and the old hard drive, insert the new one, replace the panel, and reinstall the operating system.

YO! YO! YO!

Attention:

Hard Drives are not going to do anything with the speed, other than The RPM(Rotations Per Minute) and Cache Memory, which is fast for most of the computers these days,

And i hope both of your laptops have the same type of hardware.

But here the problem is with your Software, which is in your case Windows Vista, which is havier than Windows XP,

Now WHAT DOES THIS HEAVY MEANS ????

Actually your computer is not fast enough,

coz
Windows Vista Captures More than about 128MB of your RAM to run ONLY Windows Vista, whereas

WIndows XP Captures Only 64MB of your RAM to run Your Operating System,

Precautions:

Either Increase your RAM to 512MB or 1GB, (if possible)
Otherwise, Install Windows XP on your System

I Hope that satisfies your Question and Gives you some information about What Operating Systems Do, and what do they need. . . .

:)

usually the hard disk isn't the problem, more often it is RAM, or lack there of. If you go with a bigger hard drive internal/external makes no difference just make sure you get one with like 7200 RPM and large cache.

Your problem is probably a lack of RAM and not the HD. Both are easily replaceable.
