You didn't HAVE to quit, although I hear you when you say it was unbearable - I've been in pretty lousy job situations on occasion - the thing to do is stick it out until you find something else, then smile big when you turn in your notice.

I've never heard of the employee paying into unemployment. This is paid by the employer.

If you quit, typically you are not entitled to unemployment benefits unless you can meet certain requirements.

If your work environment was unbareable for you - why didn't you talk to the owner................ I'm sure there was something you could have done to remain working there...........
Your reason for leaving, your job, may sound just to you but it just does not fall within the rules of your state's unemployment department. What you should have done is immediately look for another job so you wouldn't have any time gaps in between and forcing you to apply for something you are not qualified to receive.

Anyway, if you could document some sort of hostile environment, then you might have a chance. Maybe they were hoping you would quit. Without documentation that you complained about the mgt you probably dont have a chance.

next time you have to quit .. do this .. go to a doctor.. see him several times. get a doctor note.. and make sure you go make a copy of it for your records.. always call and tell the employer your sick and going to the doctor.. yes it is a pain in the buns to do this.. but if they fire you for being out to much.. which they will . you will have doctor excuses and unemployment..

You don't get unemployemtn benefits for quitting a job. It doesn't work like that. Mainly it's for people who have been laid off or wrongfully terminated.
