ok i have a 1990 camry le. i know it sucks. is there any way, legally, i can make it sound louder and meaner (exhaust systems, mufflers). i want that deep rumbling street car sound without having to replace the engine.

to really take advantage of any high performance after market products you need to do something with both the exhaust and intake. something as simple as replacing both the muffler with a less restrictive model and the stock air box with a cold air intake. you could gain probably 15-20 HP with that along with the rumble that you want

You can use pipe extensions, but should not replace the exhaust system on a Camry...there is a certain amount of back pressure required, and an open flow system would hurt your car just to make it sound better.

A small improvement in sound and power can be gained from putting in a K&N filter or cold-air intake system.

Take it to Midas and have them remove the muffler and catalytic converter, and just weld in straight-through pipes. It won't sound like a muscle car, but you will get a loud chain-saw or Honda sound out of it. Good luck.

Buy a CD of race car sounds and crank it up real loud!

get a cd with the sound of a gt40 then put some speakers in your grille and go to town

buy a flowmaster muffler.all those giant mufflers make it sound like motorcycle on steroids.

Modifying the factory exhaust will get you a fix it ticket, so why bother?
