And it's taken you HOW LONG to work this out???
It's called the MMB (Modern Music Business) and is no longer about individuality and creating new, diverse ideas, but about making LOADSA MONEY!!
And what better way to do that by having a PYT (Pretty Young Thing) prancing around singing a silly song about an umbrella!!
(But I ain't gonna hate on her too much...cos she's from my island Barbados!)

I know, I know..........the reason the Umbrella song is so popular, is because the video is STUNNING. They made her skin look PERFECT and she looks HOT. THIS is why the song is doing so well. It have great editing and choreography, like a "singing in the rain" type of thing.
It's all about Marketing. the industry is more about ABS than talent these days.
The lyrics are not very good, but it's the idea of being some one's "umbrella" that also makes it appealing--it is something new........an old concept, put in a new way.
That's what I think.

Because its all controlled by the industry and not the public now. If you want good music you've gotta go either with the old bands, or have a look in the 'alternative' section. What they call 'rock' music nowadays is not like it would be ten years ago. Saying that, I still like bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers who are included in the charts. :)

Rubbish!
I'm now 65, but when I was a teenager my dad used to say "What a load of rubbish this new rock & roll is.
Elvis Presley? In 6 months time nobody will remember him. Frank Sinatra, now he IS a star."
It's funny how normally we think that the best singer or musician of all time was around when we were in our teens or 20s.
So you have fallen in to this trap - 'music's not the same as it was'.

Just because a song isn't your taste doesn't mean its not good. I'm not saying I like that song, but a lot of people do and thats why its popular. And I do agree that a lot of songs sound alike these days, but Umbrella doesn't. I think its a very unique and different sounding song.

It is not No.1 any more. I think it was knocked off the top spot last weekend. Like you though, I can't understand how it stayed at the top for so long.
Has anyone else noticed though that since she hasn't been number 1, the weather has gotten a lot brighter and better.

It's second rate artists trying to get big by stealing the work of first rate artists.
Just look at Microsoft stealing Apple's ideas the whole time. Haha

Why do they sing about bananas and milkshakes? Tail feathers? Give me a break. I don't listen to the radio... probably full of subliminal messages too.
