I will be travelling from Rijeka airport to the tourist resort of Umag, then back to Krk Island a week later. How easy is it to get around on public transport? Any useful websites?

Its relatively easy and cheap to get around by bus in Croatia - generally there is a bus station in every town with clear signs up giving details of the buses/coaches. Generally there are regular local buses and an hourly type of service for the other towns along the coast or for longer distances it is less frequent.

Usually there is an information booth as well but I found it was a bit hit and miss whether they understood me! I think generally you're meant to buy your tickets at the information place.

The best thing to do is to search for the tourist information website for each town - usually they will have a section giving the main bus destinations etc.

You'll have a fabulous time - Croatia is really great and easy to get around.

You can take buses from Rijeka to Krk, about a 1,5 hr. bus ride. I see where Umag is.on the map, and you can surely get there by bus since it's a town. Just type in Google:
rijeka airport transport to umag. Most airports have their own website, where you can get the schedules and names of the local bus companies and look up their websites as well.
You'll have no problem getting around.

local people will be glad to give you any detailed information, but let me say just that you can go any place you like by local buses or by boats that are cruising all the time all the directions you like.
