Don't feel bad.Mexico is like behind your garage, where we have everything unsightly kept.Like industries that are too costly in the USA because of ENVIRONMENTAL regulations, which are non-existent there.LABOR is also obviously cheaper. The fact is,much of our manufacturing jobs have been relocated there, and the result is a weaker USA and a stronger Mexico. The NAFTA will continue to destroy our economy and strengthen others'.Kick them all out.Put up a huge fence with landmines.Make Mexico help.Mexico plotted with Japan during WW2.Don't trust Mexico.

In all honesty I plan on retiring in Mexico. If I'm lucky enough to make it to 65 I'm cashing in my 401k, buying a motorcycle, and heading for the Pacific Coast. I figure the almighty American dollar will go a little further down there and I can waste away the rest of my days sipping margaritas with a senorita half my age, waiting for my time to come to an end.
Oh and by the way this country was founded by immigrants in search of a better life and that's all our neighbors to the South are looking for. Don't get me wrong they shouldn't be able to just walk on over but we need to develop some way they can legally seek citizenship. Putting up a fence isn't going to accomplish anything. I might be mistaken but didn't China try this once before, Oh yeah it was called The Great Wall wasn't it?

Why is it my responsibility to fix Mexico? The Mexican economy gets enough money from Mexicans earning it here and spending it there. Let them use it to make their country a better place to live. It's not going to happen, though, until they do something about all the corruption in their government.

Ok, so if we go there and "fix up" Mexico, then where does it stop? Do we have to "fix up" all the third world countries? That is not something we want to start.
They are a sovereign country and not our responsibility. We do give them significant amounts of aid, though.

I have always thought the same thing. I go to Mexico about twice a year to visit my husbands family. In their area there are a lot of very poor people still living in wooden shacks and very little land with old sheets for windows and then in the same area are people like my husbands family and several friends and neighbors that live in cendar block homes or stucko and have nice floors and real windows, electic service, appliances and such but no central heat or air and the roads are still dirt. These are the families that have legal family members living here in the US and sending money home to their aging family members. Yes, these people we personally know and they are all legal because they came when the first amnesty in 1987 was opened so don't start on that stuff you others will spew.
We encouraged NAFTA to first help Mexico for trading and to open borders to more business. (Free trade my a$$) but then we give them more money to help us keep drug dealers and drug lords from transfering any number of things through the borders. Their government is greedy and are waaaay to comfortable in their position of being "neutral" like Switzerland. They do not go to war with other countries that costs money out of their pockets because their is no federal tax system. It is still considered fuedal anyway. They have as much oil or more than Iraq and are closer for shipping which results in lower costs in shipping and refining. Many of our textiles now come from there rather than asian countries because it is cheaper to ship. Don't believe me look at the labels on most of the clothing purchased from target, walmart, kmart, and kohls - hecho en Mexico.
I think we should have just gone to Mexico and told them that we are coming to your country, help you set up a federal tax system with each state having taxes as well, set a minimum wage law, help you set up a federal subsidies council to help with funding for healthcare, the aged, and social reformed assistance. Don't like it, sorry. Your people are coming over here in droves and sending our money back to you and still will not benefit from the taxes paid to us or you. We are wasting time and money. We will help you work on the international market with your natural resources and original goods made by your indigenous peoples. If we did this it would take an average of 7 yrs to set up and another 20 to help them set up an accountability system so that things will be funded correctly and no one will be left out. You should see the thousands of people that 2 yrs ago were living in a shanty town outside of Mexico city. Mexico just last year passed a law that there will be no street vending anywhere in the country without strict permission from the towns local authorities and must display said permit predominantly at your establishment. That included these people that were virtually homeless setting up stakes anywhere just to be close to a chance to work (for the average of a $1 a day). Now they have moved these people as well. There are a lot of stories about where they moved these thousands of people and none of them sound very good. This included children as well.
They are trying to look presentable when in fact they are sneaky as they can be and their people are holding their breath wondering what might happen next. Sort of scared but not in a way. It's cleaner than I have ever seen it but just seems to me that something in their manner has changed (Mexican citizens). Maybe we should go into Mexico like we did Iraq and see what happens. But something is going to happen soon and I wonder if it is really going to be for the good.

It is not bad in Mexico. This is an invasion. Mexican officials have admitted that Mexico is trying to invade the U.S..
It is a documented fact that the people in Eastern Europe are poorer than the people in Mexico.

There you go being reasonable.
The answer is that corporate America and the American upper class benefit from illegal immigration.
But they sure will devote a lot of energy to keep you from realizing this.
