Both are junk if you ask me.
Toshiba's are commonly rated very poorly in customer satisfaction. I had one that was the biggest piece of junk. I was an IT at the time, I was constantly trying to fix it, and it was just awful.
HP doesn't make a single decent computer. Also, not even FBI agents have computers with a fingerprint "scanner" on them, not a decent one at least. I was told by someone in the security business that finger prints are never going to be that useful as a security measure because a little grease or dirt, and your finger print could look wrong, or someone elses could look right.... plus it's only an extra $25, if a finger print reader was only 25$ don't you think we'd be using that instead of credit cards????????
I say the best machine out there is a MacBook Pro. You can put windows on it if you like, works great, I have both windows and mac osx running on mine, and it's an awesome machine. I also happen to work in graphic design and multimedia/video production.... so take my word that it is a great machine. Apple sells refurbished machines that are in excellent condition, have warranties, and are a bit cheaper than normal.
The only other machine I would suggest would be a Sony Vaio. Great machines. Last forever.

you could no longer rather cost a producer because of the fact each and every person makes a lot of laptops and each and each laptop does in any different case in stability, overall performance, style, etc. i could advise Sony however. Sony is customarily extra costly because of the fact this is seen classier and tries to sell to the 'richer' crowd. HP is a robust sort besides, don't get me incorrect. they have a tendency to make their laptops extra inexpensive so extra scholars and decrease earnings human beings could have sufficient money it.

I got a HP, Ive had it for 3 yrs, no problems. They are affordable and look very very stylish. I have a HP Paviliion dv6000. It came with XP, but I recently installed Windows Vista on it. Get the HP, you won't be dissappointed.
