Watching Sandy Koufax and Jerry Koosman of the Mets in a great pitchers' duel at Shea Stadium. A sell out crowd for a regular season mid-week night game. There were stll a lot of Dodger fans in NY at that time. They were carrying signs saying Koufax is King!! But about the 7th inning the Mets took the lead and some of those signs were burned in the stands. Also, suddenly, out of nowhere, Koosman is King signs were being marched up and down the stadium. I think the final score was 4-3.

Quite a night. My brother and I had skipped the previous two games which the Mets had surprisingly( considering how horrible they were at the time) also won. A sweep of the Dodgers completed by the Mets star pitcher (at that time)!!!

The crowd was nuts and would not leave the park for some time following that game. Still the best game I ever saw in person.

My favorite baseball memory is watching the '89 "battle of the bay" world series between SF and Oakland. I was sitting on my couch, getting ready for the game, when the room began to shake violently. I looked up and had time to hear the announcer say, "oh, we're having an earthqu-" and then the screen went blank and we all went for a 30 second wild ride!

Telling WAY too much of my age here!
I had just earned 5 cents (!) for gardening for a neighbor. I went to the drugstore with my brother to buy some penny candy. (I'm not that old! It was a small town and the candy was taken out just a couple of years later!!) I had already had everything they had to offer (100s of types of candy, too!) and couldn't decide. My brother was anxious to go so he showed my Topp's baseball cards. I'd never seen or hear of baseball cards, so I bought them (but only because they came with a stick of bubble gum.)
On the way home I opened them. The first card I saw was Mickey Mantle. It was 1962. He looked handsome and his uniform was so cool. I began reading the backs of the cards and my brother was telling me what all the symbols meant. When I got to the end of the cards, there was the Mick again (only the back of the card) and I told my brother, "They made a mistake. Where it says 'B' for 'Bats' they have 'B'. They meant 'R', right?" "Nope," my brother said, "That means he bats both ways, right and left." I'd never heard of switch hitting and right then and there and forever I was a Mantle fan (I thought he was a genius) and a Yankee fan (even though we lived in Illinois). Still am to this day. My happiest memory.

The 1988 World Series when the LA Dodgers defeated the heavily favored Oakland A's. The Kirk Gibson HR was pure magic... and Orel Hershiser was virtually unhitable.
