Participate in comunity, build a reputation of being there for the community

A good reputation and good rappour with local committees, politicians, boards, organizations, businesses, etc will help in the future

You have to be a resident of the area for at least one year

Get enough supports to be nominated as a candidate

The party you want to represent will then elect from the nominees one person to represent it in the elections

Now you have to campaign and let the public know who you are, what you stand for, why they should vote for you

Bottom line - you must get elected by the people.

From an email I received after writing to the Department for Constituional Affairs:

"The independent Electoral Commission provides guidance for people wishing to stand as candidates at general elections.

To qualify as a candidate for a general election a person must satisfy the following basic criteria on the day they are nominated and polling day.

1. Have attained the age of 18 years, which was reduced from 21 yours by the Electoral Administrative Act 2006.
2. Be a British citizen, a citizen of another Commonwealth country or a citizen of Republic of Ireland.

Citizens of other European Union countries are not eligible to become a Member of the UK Parliament.

Further information on guidance for candidates can be located on the Electoral Commission’s website at

http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk "

Hope that helps. Do visit the link because it specifies deposit and nomination information and where & how you have to register your intent to stand.

See the army recruiter, let him/her know you'd like to be an MP, they will give you the ASVAB test to make sure you have the mental capacity and intelligence to perform the military occupational specialty, and then...this is important, get it in the contract that you will be given the opportunity to be a military policeman. BTW, just because they give you the opportunity, does not mean you'll be one, when they send you to Advanced Individual Training after Basic Training...if you fail out of the course, they can put you in any Military Occupational Specialty they want :)

It seems that people are seeing PM instead of MP.

Learn to lie convincingly, learn to hide any real opinions of your own, to answer any good and sensible questions with a torrent of rhetoric meaning nothing. Give meaningless promises to improve standards in whatever issue the media have focused upon.

Most of all you must register your intention to stand with the registrar of voters and put up a deposit which if you gain less than 5% of the votes cast you loose.

Concentrate on being a bigot and be very selfish. Then wear a suit but dispense with the necktie for street cred. Practise smiling and am sure if Gordon Browne can do it anyone can.

Very easy if you know a few MP's "It's scratch my back and I'll scratch yours " especialy the honest ones because an honest politician is one who, when he is bought, he will stay bought.
