Purple Cows

Grandma made
the best of tea
God rest her soul
last year
~
She was always
mighty handy
when Grandpa wanted
homemade beer
~
Still I think back
to that summer
Grandma whipped up
Anise Tea
~
She picked the
roots herself
and somehow failed
to rid out foriegn weeds....
~
And there were
~
purple cows in the pasture
and the clouds were flying by
~
Grandpa seemed much younger
and Grandma knew how to fly
~
Cats were barking and dogs meowed
and the trees grew awkwardly
~
Grandmas anise tea that summer.....
~
scared the sh*t outta me
~
Grandma made
the best of tea
God rest her soul
last year
~
She was always
mighty handy
when it came ta
cooking deer
~
Still I think back
to that summer
Grandma whipped up
a pot of stew
~
She picked the
roots herself
and somehow failed
to get the right mushrooms
~
And there were
~
purple cows in the pasture
Ten foot high horse flies
~

Shad, another good one. This one could use some minor edits though. One suggestion, there's a beat missing in "scared the sh*t outta me"...try adding "right" to it becomes, "scarred the sh*t right outta me".

Also, because of the length of the poem, you might try to see how it looks and flows by making the stanzas like this:

Grandma made the best of tea
God rest her soul last year
She was always mighty handy
when Grandpa wanted homemade beer

It showcases the abab rhyme better and will tighten up the lines without making them move too fast.

I'd also look at "she picked the roots herself"...again, missing a beat...try "she picked the roots all by herself".

Other than minor edits like that, it works very well.
Nicely done :)

You..my friend have an awesome imagination. I feel privileged to have read this poem or it could be a song. I actually felt like I had drank the tea and eat the mushrooms in the stew. Now that's good poetry! I'm still laughing..I have to share this one!

wow,
that would be enough to scare the dickens out
whether riding the bike or driving out in the country
seeing purple cows, next thing they will be giving purple milk. This poem is beautifully written.

This would be a different experience

Beautiful this one...ahhhh....grandparents....always ready with a smile for evryone even though what life throws at them.....right shad.....always able to stand and live life simply and to the fullest with so little that they have......make do with what nature provides.....simpler times with not much worries on what tomorrow can bring.....what you just describe is an ideal euthopia and i feel blessed having felt this even though it is only for an amount of time they are here.

I loved this Shad. This was awesome. Great poem. Loved the purple cow lines.

At my grandma's house it was brown meat day. It was scary, and I couldn't tell you what the meat was, but it wasn't as scary as your grandma's meals.

So, when you sat down for Deer Stew, did they put on Dark Side of the Moon?

ten foot high
horse fly
horse
fly
foot high
ten
the right mushrooms grow
where the horse met the fly
in the wet october pasture
after cool rain.
When I touch them
they turn blue.
pretty me
pretty you

hours later
the magic of the mirror
I look and look
I see who is real and
I choose.

nice. I would change foreign roots to something else, but for the most part flows nicely and entertaining. Should get plenty of laughs at open mike.
