I want to write a letter to the president of the US. I know the white house is in Washington DC I just need the street addess. I want to try to convince him into changing the drop out law. The amendment says no one should be discriminated against. Isn't it age discrimination when you have to do something you don't want to do just because of your age. I don't want to go to school and I have to be 18 to drop out. That's age discrimination because adults don't have to go it's just for kids because we're young. Do you think I'd be able to convince him to change the law?

I think it would be an excellent experience for you to try, even though it's probably better to stay in school anyway. Hang on, I'll grab the address for you.

The White House
Attn: President George W. Bush
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Go ahead and state your case carefully and respectfully. You'll probably get a form letter back saying "thanks for writing...", but if you write a solid enough letter, there's always a chance you'll hear back from one of his staffers. Good luck!

As a minor you do not enjoy all of the same rights that adults have. I do not think your argument would get far, though it is creative. You seem smart. Is there any clubs or extra-curricular activities you could get involved with to make school more fun?

Also, as a general note. When you want to change the law you should write your congressperson. The legislative branch (Congress) is responsible for making laws.

Not a chance. A high school dropout earns $1 million *less* than a high school graduate over the course of their lifetime. Why would you want to give up a million dollars just because you don't want to go to school? What else can you do without a degree? You can't even join the military! How do you expect to survive on minimum wage? Get to school, please, and study hard. In a few years, you'll say "That was easier than I thought!"

Great open letter. I, too, would like to ask this question. How come we can extend unemployment benefits to people who are lazy and aren't trying to even look for a job? Maybe we could put them to work fund raising to give breakfasts to our finest and ship them nothing but the best, which is what they deserve.

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

You probably don't even need a zip code for that...I'm fairly sure the Post Office knows where it's at.

Actually it is a state law. In Oklahoma it is 16 years of age one "has" to attend school........ so go get a GED and you won't have to go to school.
