People who make over $250,000 find many ways around paying their fair share of the tax burden!!
Why should the Middle Class ($35,000-$100,000) carry the burden alone?
A flat or fair tax is the only way to make this proportionately equal!
RLP & others: How many people are on welfare because they are 'lazy' to use your word? Not as many as you would have everyone believe.
RLP you and I are from WI and our welfare structure is one of the best and most efficient in the country. You can't just get welfare because you don't want to work. People have to qualify for it and if they do it is only for a set period of time. They also have to proactively search for employment and/or they can be trained in many different fields that will ultimately lead them to employment that will help them to establish financial independence! It isn't just a handout at least not in Wisconsin!
Also you can't tell me that wealthy people aren't finding loopholes in the tax system to avoid paying taxes!
I am not directly accusing you or your husband I am speaking to the wealthy as a whole!
Our system isn't balanced.
When you consider all of the taxes U.S. citizens pay per state in total it is or should be more than enough!
Especially in a state like Wisconsin.
Gas tax-Cigarette tax-Liquor tax(that's a BIG one in WI)-County sales tax-Fed tax-property tax....etc.
It's outrageous!
Not to mention all of the lotteries money that is produced in our state!
Where does it all go?

Not all rich worked from nothing to become rich. Many had rich parents and family "to help them along" (best private schools and colleges). Many have connections to help "get them started".
No person chooses to be born poor. Not having rich relatives that helps them through school they have to work (and compete with illegals now) hard (sometime dirty Jobs that don't pay much over minimum wage. Not all poor want or ask for any government help. They just have to choose if they want to pay a bill or buy more groceries.Tuition is expensive and starting a business requires alot of money. How many banks would loan a person making around minimum wage enough to go to college or start a business. Many people can't afford the cost of a car much less the insurance, taxes, etc. If a person has money that is fine (even born into money),but those who are poor have wants and dreams too.

Well I'm sorry that you think that there are enough 'successful entrepreneurs' to be able to say 'enough' and actually have a choice in the matter. the average income in the US is around $40,000. There are far more voters who do not agree with your husband, therefore things will not be changing any time soon if ever. I could spell out for you how welfare is paid, how it's mostly state taxes, that more goes on salaries and pension for politicians, that more goes to fund Israel, etc. but I'm sure I will be wasting my time. If you, as a woman, in this society truly believes that a single mother who works very hard should pay the same in taxes as your husband, then you will be a single struggling mother in your next life.
Do you even know any families who make under $80,000 in combined income? have you had a silver spoon in your mouth since birth? BTW, your husband's business, does he only do business with the rich? if the middle class were to have most of their earnings lost to taxes, would his business thrive without the working class?
I suggest you go do some volunteer work at a battered woman's shelter, or talk to some women who haven't married money, and put yourself in their shoes. It could have easily been you my dear. the most admirable women in history were born with money, but worked for the cause of the poor in America, to educate underprivileged children and bring awareness to their struggles. You say you do important things with your time, I highly doubt it. As a matter of fact, there's no doubt in my mind you don't. You've never worked a hard day in your life.

o my heart simply bleeds for you! how terrible to still have an income more than you need to survive on! workers in the bottom of the scale also work themselves to the bone just to SURVIVE. what about the people working two or three jobs just to survive?! they exist. dont tar all unemployed with the lazy brush, yes i have no doubt there will be some who are lazy and dont want to work, but there is such a thing as deserving poor. you contribute to society in other ways do you?! you could say the same about certain section of the unemployed. greed pure and simple is what this comes down to. not everyone can earn that much money, and your one of the lucky one's who do, no wait sorry, your husband is one of the lucky one's who do, your just a freeloader by marriage. how is a flat rate fair? it would have to be quite a high rate to maintain the level of tax at the moment which penalises low income earners more, another incentive for staying on welfare that is. dont bother working menial jobs people, cos you'll be taxed the same as someone earning ten times in a yr what you will.

In just six years Congressional earmarks went from 3600 to over 32,000.
More is spent on unnecessary corporate subsides and fraudulent bailouts then the WORKING poor gets
Isn't it glorious how christian conservatives care so much about themselves and no one else?
I do not miss what I lack
They have no problem with $500 B bailouts of banks and S/L's with a Trillion $ real esate bubble ready to burst
$500B civil war in iraq that was to cost us nothing and only last 6 months
Oil prices out the roof when there is enough oil in Canada to supply the WORLD for a century

Since that would only be the rich that quit, the country would go on. Companies would have to pay more to replace the spoiled brats that picked up their marbles and claimed not fair. The majority of the working class is not rich. I could give less a damn if the CEO of Exxon bailed out. And half of your money is not going to social programs. Why don't you complain about the other worthless programs that are sucking you dry? Or are you just a poor child and elderly basher?

I love reading the answers to this question. They are soooo precious.
I hope everyone who says the rich SHOULD pay more get to that level one day. They'll change their minds.
It is unfair for hard working successful people to be taxed at a higher rate than anyone else. In our class war society too many people think those that make good money somehow got there on the backs of others, won life's lottery, cheated, inherited etc. It's never because they worked hard, went to school, delayed self gratification, etc.
IRS publishes who pays the federal tax. The top 25% paid 84.6 % of federal income tax last year. The top 50% paid 96.7 %. I'll leave it up to the mathematicians too figure out how much the bottom 50% pay. You add state tax and a person of your income will pay 30-40% of your income to some government agency.
And whoever said the military is the most expensive outlay is wrong. The last time I checked it was third and that's because we are at war. It will go down. Health and Human Services and Social Security lead the way with the IRS on their heels, and it's only getting worse. These two top monsters will continue to grow until Congress crashes the bank.

This country has obviously been VERY good to your husband, and to you. Further, your husband's business, in all likelihood, benefits and has benefited from government largesse in the form of either direct subsidy for investments and other capital spending, or indirectly through protections gained by import regulation, public works infrastructure specifically mandated to support businesses like his, or block grants for workforce education in your city or region.
Poor pitiful you with your tax burden at one of the lowest levels in the industrialized world.
Try a little gratitude, lady, to the country that made all of this possible for you. Freedom isn't free - and neither are the fruits of your husband's success born of public policies created to foster his very success.

same because of the fact the deficits, each and every of the main important ones are under republican administrations. Then they create in the "tax and spend" democrats to restoration issues so the conservatives can harm it lower back. i'm bored with it. i'm vote casting for Obama (lower back) so he has a raffle at a protracted time era restoration.

Well that's not going to happen. The highest rate of income tax is 40% in Sweden, yet unemployment is only slightly higher than the US - and there is no stigma against entrepreneurship. One of the most successful businesses in the world - Ikea, is Swedish.
