They are all against school choice (vouchers). Most of the candidates sent their kids to private schools and had some excuse for sending them there. The point is that most people can't make excuses.
An excuse cant get you into a private school. Only money and freedom to choose a school can do that.

You miss the point.

So called school choice is a major scam where the poor will be subsidizing rick kids' education, which is the most absurd thing I ever heard of.

Vouchers do not guarantee admission to a private school.

I am glad the democrats oppose school vouchers.

I send my daughters to private schools because I can afford to. I would be a hypocrite if I also asked to be given a tax break in the way of vouchers.

We had a ballot initiative for vouchers in my state. The backers of the initiative said they only wanted to give people a choice and let public schools -compete- with private schools.

But under the initiative, private schools could charge whatever they liked beyond the voucher amount, while public schools had to take the voucher amount and no more. Public schools had to take all applicants but private schools could pick and choose among applicants to accept the ones most likely to do well. And public schools had to hire officially certified teachers and pay them the going rate while private schools could hire anyone, regardless of qualifications, and pay them whatever they could get them to work for.

The good people of our state turned the plan down. Several years later the exact same initiative appeared on our ballot again, and we turned it down again.

People who can afford to do so send their kids to private school. It's always been that way. That doesn't mean we don't need good public schools! We pride ourselves on 'social mobility', the idea that a kid born in poverty can work hard and pull himself up by his own bootstraps. Public school is the mechanism for this! Apparently conservatives would rather that only the children of the well-to-do could get a decent education.

Well guess what, experienced teachers don't really want to go teach in a private school for their low pay unless we have a partner that supports us, or unless we can't read any books but the ones our church approves of.

If you can afford an excellent private school that doesn't brainwash your children, good for you. Private schools can more easily deal with some of the worst and wildest kids nowadays because they can just refuse to accept them or kick them out if they misbehave.
But do they really prepare kids to work with and deal with all kinds of people?

Yes....I am a against school vouchers and I am independent. I would not associate myself with either of these quack parties that we have now.

But...anywho...no school vouchers...all that's going to do is drag the good private schools down. The private schools will then be filled with the same kids that don't want to learn in public schools.

In addition to that, school vouchers are nothing more than a foot in the door for the government to control our private schools as well.

No thanks.

Ahhhh yes, the conservative dream of an end run around desegregation with vouchers. All the pretty white children's schools on one side of town and all those "dirty little darkies" with their own dilapidated schools. Get over your fear of minorities. They're nice people, too.

Somewhat typical isn't it? They take the opposite side just because, not because it makes sense. Congress has the lowest rating in history, maybe because people aren't as dumb as Congress thinks they are.
