I’ll Be By Your Side
I never knew my father that well
I was just two when his car wreck befell
Mom raised me up no matter the fear
Who knew in ten years she'd be lying here?
Down by the river out on Essex Dock
Mother and I in the morning would walk
And sit up on the pier under skies so clear
Who knew in ten years she'd be lying here?
Off to the movies then dinning out
A tickle or two and go sailing about
Snowball fights in the winter, our bond so dear
Who knew in ten years she’d be lying here?
Now, on her bedside I wait as we cry
She’s murmuring words unidentified
Not two hours ago her speech perfectly clear
Forever I will remember those words in my ear
She said
“I'm sorry, I'm leaving, you can't come this time
But, believe in this love that I'm leaving behind
Know when I say that there will come a day
Once again you'll be wrapped in my arms in this way”

(Then the steady beeping turned to one long sound
Crying, I softly eased her eyelids down
A kiss on her mouth, I could take no more
So I clung to those words she had spoken before)
She said
“I'm so sorry this trip only has room for one
Just move on with your life I will see you become
That special adult that you were as a child
And remember, always please I'll be by your side”

This is very beautiful and touching and all that can be said when one mother had to go. You should have this printed in a book or a card shad for some of us who does not have the gift of having words said when such a time come and you have put it in such a way that it completes the feeling and said all there is to say when such day come in one's life.
As a mother, when my day come with all the advices i have in mind for my children, after reading what you have written.....I have come to an agreement deep within myself that what you have written as what a mother could say is in fact all there is to say is those written in your poem.

My opinion....how come your not a poet yet? This is really good. All the emotions running through my head while reading each line has touched me. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your poems. You should enter this into a poetry book.

Is this true because if it is I'm really sorry. It's really good and I love it. It would be nice to write this way, but I wouldn't be able to reach your standards. Again, I love it.
