Because of global warming. Its causing most places to get warmer and is messing with normal weather patterns meaning more rain, hurricanes, etc. Sorry I don't know specifics so I can't get any more scientific.

The *factually-based* reasons are that this happens every so often. Listen to the reports - you'll hear things like "the most rain in 40 years" or "the biggest heat wave since 1962". These things have happened before - yes, before "global warming" - and, in fact, they have been *even worse* before.

This is not to say that there is no such thing as global warming, or that global warming is not having an affect on the weather. What it *does* mean is that it is *unusual*. It is *not* unheard of. Don't worry - it's unlikely to happen again next year. (The odds are against it.)

I'd blame Dementors! (Or George Bush, Version 2.0, which is pretty much the same thing!).
